Not compatible with Windows 10, but otherwise works fine
I've had a lot of stops and starts with this. Most of my issues at the start were my own fault (broker VCR, wrong settings, etc). It then started working, but after setting it aside for a week or two it stopped reading from the VCR. I realized today that I'd upgraded my PC to Windows 10 in the meantime and THIS ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 10. Now I've moved my setup to my husband's laptop which is still VISTA and it is working again. I haven't done any editing with their software. That will be phase II of the project.

Great. Worked perfectly. Install software and drivers from CD.
I have had a number of VHS family videos that I needed to convert to digital. I at first looked at an actual VHS player that converts to DVDs, but in this day and age, this just is a waste. In addition, I thought to myself that I do not even particularly want my videos on DVDs anymore so this was not an option. There are several much cheaper video campture devices that will hook up to the video out line of a VCR, but none with consistently good reviews. I knew I had to spend a little more than $30. My family videos are more important than $30. I found this at around $70. A comparable device I found was GREX digital video stabilizer to Copy or Capture any video from VHS, DVD, DVR, Cable Box to DVD Recorder, PC or VCR . It had a bunch of extra features I would have liked, but has no support for HDMI so I left it alone. It is also more expensive and seems to require additional components. This appeared to be a simpler device that would get the job done so I chose it.At first, I hooked up all the cables and plugged the device into my computer. It installed the drivers, but I decided to look to the TerraTec website instead of installing the software from the CD. This caused me a good 15 minute headache as I tried to figure out what was going on. I would guess that I just made a mistake and that the software I needed was indeed on the site, but it screwed me up. I uninstalled everything and re-installed off the CD and had no further problem with this product. I would say that the quality is about as close to "1:1" as you can get. Of course, if you have a bad VCR, it will affect the video, so keep that in mind. The software is good for importing videos, but the editing aspect has got me a bit miffed. I think that I am going to use software that I am more familiar with to edit my videos. That is the only real negative I can say, but honestly I think that If you have a fast computer and have a better time figuring out the editing part of the program than me, you might like it.

Not very useful
Can only produce a digital movie file in one format and you must use their software to do it. Does not interface at all with third party software such as Apple's iMovie

It just flat out works perfectly.
I decided to spend a little extra for a device that has all the necessary cables and connectors and this product fit the bill perfectly. If I had purchased all of the components and software separately it would have wound up costing me more with less assurance that it'd work right the first time. Within 15 minutes of the Terratec arriving in the mail (which somehow happened overnight even though I specified only regular shipping) I had copied a video tape that I'd thought I'd never be able to see again into a digital format and was then able to burn DVD's of it. The video is the only one of my late father and I thought I'd never see it again because who uses VHS anymore? Thanks to this device and an old VCR I found in the basement that magically still worked, I now have the video on a dozen DVD's and on 3 computers and stored on YouTube and in my Dropbox account. It was worth the price alone just to get this one video, now I'm eyeballing all the old tapes I have in the closet and thinking about converting a few of the ones you can't get on DVD for any money. Five stars! Excellent product.

Works as promised. Old tapes converted!
This had a fairly quick installation (have to install drivers and program separately), on my XP SP3 machine. In one day I've transferred all my old Hi8 video tapes from the late 1990s to DVD. Super quick and easy process. Does exactly what it promised to do. Highly recommended.

the perfect device
This device was worth every penny I paid for it. After striking out with the EZgrabber, I ordered this as a replacement. It produced a good image from my old VHS home movies, and offered immediate options to import the raw data into iMovie, QuickTime, or your archives. Couldn't recommend it more!

Does what is says
If you need to convert videos, then this is the way to do it. Stop looking for other short cuts, the box brings in the signal, and the software does the rest. I have reclaimed memories to store and edit easily on my computer.

Analog to digital
I have transfered all my old home VHS to digital. Works well for Quick Time on my Mac. IMovie is not the format for analog transfers. Given cost and ease of use I would highly recommend this.
