Great headphones for the price - inexpensive but work well.
I have owned many inexpensive sports headphones over the years but these by far are the best. They are so good that I have purchased several extra pair just in case I do something stupid to break them. The headband retains its shape over time unlike the other models that I have owned. Just enough tension to keep them on your head but not enough to give you a headache. With other headbands the tension starts out strong but then loses it's strength over time. Then, if you tilt your head forward they fall off - but not the AS35W.Also the ear bud has a nice design that helps it stay into your ear - but doesn't put any extra pressure into your ear like some specialized ear buds do. The design also helps the headband stay on your head. The bass might not be as good as some people might like but I think that it is very good and it is the best of any inexpensive headphones that I have owned. After all they are sports headphones - I want them to stay on my head while I exercise. If I need more bass then I will get into my car and crank up the stereo. The cord comes in 2 pieces. The one attached to the headphones is approximately 24 inches - ear bud to the plug. This would be more than enough if you are wearing your music device on your armband. The 2nd piece is an extension and is a shorter length - at least another 18 inches. I use the 2 of them together because I wear my radio on my belt and need a little extra length on the cord. The headband folds up nicely and comes with a plastic carrier to hold the ear phones and cords.I think that this is a great product and hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I have.

The "W" makes it different
I've been using this model Sony earphone set for some time and have found it to be ideal for my purposes. So recently I decided to get a new one since the hinges on the one I had were getting dicey. On the Amazon site I saw the unit and one with a letter "W" appended So I thought it would be some form of improvement. When the unit arrived I found out instead of improvement, the "W" must mean "wire", since the supporting structure is a flexible metal rig that goes behind your head instead of the original jointed one that goes (in my case) over the top of my head. The "W" version is OK, but if I had known the difference I would have ordered the old reliable original.

On my second pair (cat chewed first ones)
I love these headphones! They are the perfect fit for exercise, when you like to wear an armband. The short cord provides just the right length to not be flopping everywhere and bothersome. The sound is find for me, and I would consider myself a pretty big techno-geek so the complaints are unwarranted. Yes if you turn them up full blast it's likely going to be too loud and not sound amazing, this isn't a problem with the headphones, this is a problem with human hearing. Our ears don't want to be slaughtered! Keep the volume no higher than 3/4 and you won't be complaining. These also do an excellent job of shutting down outside nose so you may need to leave one ear out (which is comfortable) in certain situations for safety's sake. These are DEFINITELY the go-to choice for fitness enthusiasts!

Remarkably Good So Far
First, a quick note: The product I received when I ordered this item does not look like this picture. It looks like this --> Sony MDR-AS35W Stereo Sports Lightweight Headphone with Powerful Bass. It's possible what I received is different from what the customers with negative reviews received. That would account for the fact that I've had a completely polar opposite experience than they described. The primary difference, just so you're not surprised, is how they fold -- see below. Now, a review after about 1 week of use:This is an extremely good set of headphones for $23. Reading 1-star reviews that critique these like they're to be used in a recording studio is ridiculous. The critical reviewers lowered my expectations to the point where I almost didn't order them. I'm glad I decided to ignore them. I've used the other models of sony headphones. In particular, I was a fan of the ones that look like the ones in this picture. MDR-A35 I believe. They were a good blend of decent quality, portability and comfort that would stay on your head during a run. So after going through several expensive sets of headphones, I decided to see if I could get back to my roots.Strengths:1. Short/modular cable is perfect for a workout. At about 20 inches, the short cord goes to where you'd wear an mp3 player armband with enough slack that you can turn your head and move your arm without tugging...but not the slightest bit extra so it doesn't flop around. The attachment doubles the length, making it longer than normal headphone cables so it can reach your pocket, your backpack, just about anything but the floor.2. Rubber driver covers are comfortable and provide a little bit of sound isolation. Once again, perfect for a gym environment. Products that have sound isolation tend to make people lovers or haters due to the way they fit. Perhaps a poor fit is what made sounds "muddy" as the other users described them. I think I have pretty normal ears but have never been that impressed with sound isolating ear phones (from $250 Sleek Audio drivers to cheaper alternatives and everything in between) but these are among the better ones I've used. They won't block out all sound like the in-ear phones...but they do a pretty good job of dampening outside sounds.3. They fold differently, which is also a weakness. However, these have a hard plastic case that protects their form when they're folded. Anybody who's used the headphones like the picture shows is familiar with the feeling you get when you put them in a pocket or a gym bag...that feeling like you're not quite sure you're ever going to see them in one piece again. The hard plastic case allows for a fairly compact footprint...AND a clear conscience4. $23...I'm not expecting to hear DMB's finger prints grind against the ribbing on a guitar string. That's just a really reasonable price tag.Weaknesses:1. They fold differently than the picture shows so they're not as compact, but they're pretty close.2. I suppose they could be solid gold...or come packaged on the head of a gorgeous swimsuit model. I suppose that'd be worth a fifth star. But come on!! 23 bucks!!The negative reviews don't accurately represent these headphones. If you're on the fence enough to read these reviews, get these.
