Nice Sewing Machine for light work
This is a nice sewing machine for day to day simple work. Hard to use on think cloth and beware, trying to use it on Jeans may break it or at least Jam it. But for light work, it works flawless. Have been using more than a year and still working. Good value for price paid.

Very pleased - used this machine to piece my quilt blocks
While I didn't NEED to buy a sewing machine for the quilting class I'm taking, I never seemed to be able to finish my blocks during class so I purchased this machine to work on them at home. I'm very pleased with it. I never used a sewing machine in my life until now. I was so overwhelmed at the thought of buying one - so I picked this one based on the price and previous 5-star reviews.Being that I only need to stitch a straight line to piece my blocks (just to clarify - I am NOT using this for quilting stitches, just the piecing), a basic machine is all I needed. It didn't take long for me, a complete novice when it comes to sewing, to start piecing my blocks. The instruction book is thorough and includes diagrams that were helpful in figuring out where everything goes & what it all does. I was up & sewing in about 30 minutes. I really love this machine!

Save your money - Buy Vintage, Janome or Bernina
I used this machine for 2 months. I had nothing but tension problems. It also sounds a bit like a chainsaw, when using it. I'm not rough on machines but when putting it away one night, I noticed the sound of something broken off inside. I also made the mistake of trying to do some free motion quilting on it. The tension never recovered. I suspect my ultra low loft batting somehow broke the tensioner spring. The parts are ALL plastic. The warranty is clearly a joke. It would cost more to fix than to buy a new version of this machine (you couldn't pay me for another one of these things)My advice to someone new to machines would be to either buy a vintage model or spend the bucks on a low end Janome or Bernina. My vintage White is 100% metal and a workhorse. You can find some really great vintage machines on Craigslist or ebay, starting at around $60.Two months after buying this machine, it is sitting in a box in my closet. I'm going to have to part it out to make any of my money back. These are disposable machines.

Started out strong, but failed in the end
I thought I was getting myself a real gem based on reviews I'd read, unfortunately I was wrong. I have owned this machine for just under 2 mos and it's already having issues w/the lower bobbin. I called Brother and though helpful w/troubleshooting, we couldn't fix the problem and I was instructed to take it to the closest service center which unfortunately is 36 miles away...would not really recommend this machine based on this experience.

Ok but keeps tangling....and catching
I was excited about this machine after reading some great reviews. It worked as I expected, not great with heavy materials but I wasn't expecting it to anyways. Great little machine but somehow the thread keeps catching on the rotating inner arm.... no where near where the thread is it is almost like the tension wheel is giving out and the thread is bouncing and catching or something. I have adjusted the tension etc and no luck. when it catches you cannot even move the needle. You have to unscrew the front plate of the machine and sit there with tweezers and a stitch ripper trying to pick the thread out and it is VERY time consuming. I was not very impressed to say the least. I will be taking mine back and getting a different machine as this is too much of a hassle and I have read that other people are having the same problem. Just a heads up.

Simple but very useful sewing machine
I rare to touch sewing machine. Usually just need to fix some of the clothes which has holes or losing the stitches. So I bought this, as this is a simple sewing machine in affordable price.End up it really becomes useful. Though I still don't use it often, I managed to use it to make curtain, pillow cases, skirts, fixing some clothes/fabric..It's been years 9 years (I bought it in 2006), and it's still working well... Love it!!

Busted the 2nd time it was used. Junk!
1st project: Sewed 4 sheer curtains and all was fine. 2nd Project: Hemmed 4 cotton valances, it stopped feeding the fabric, called Brother they said to take it to a repair center in a town of 2,000 people an hour away, then go back a week later to pay for the repairs and pick up the machine. Why would anyone take two 1/2 days off of work and pay to repair a sewing machine that breaks so easily? The same is true for all Brother products. So I've learned to buy from companies that locate their service center in convenient locations, like the city of 500,000 that I live in.
