Works well. Easy to connect in the sandpaper
I have not used the Dust catching feature as I use a dust mask while working. Over all its easy to get the paper secured and use. My previous sander (that I'm replacing with this) had a metal base plate where this one is plastic. I guess I'll how long it holds up.

A Proven Workhorse and the Best Value
This Porter Cable (P-C) sander is essentially a 'rebranded DeWalt DW411' sander---it is the exact same design and specifications, with only the housing color changed to gray! The motor sounds exactly the same too. The P-C sander has a slightly beefier power chord, which is good thing.I bought this unit because I've owned a DeWalt model DW411 sander for over 20 years and it is still working beautifully after all that I have put it through. I wanted a 2nd sander so I can use one with fine and one with coarse sand paper at the same time on my projects. So, when I saw this P-C unit for such a good price, I didn't have to think twice! I've been using this P-C sander for the past 2 weeks; it is working great just as I expected. I expect this new sander to outlast me! Bottom line: I strongly recommend it.For the record, SKIL model 7292-02 palm sander was my 2nd choice, but only because my experience with other SKIL tools that I own has been nothing short of excellent.

My father did get a Porter Cable 330 speed block which at the time was made by Delta if I recall and he thought it was fantastic which it was and still is other than not ...
I've been around for 69 years . My father was a carpenter as was my grandfather . My father had power tools yet this was so long ago when porter cable and Dewalt were completely different animals than they are today. I bring this review up simply because in the old days there were belt sanders and 1/2 sheet sanders with no dust collection at all and the idea of a finish sander or orbital that didn't vibrate you to dread didn't exist. My father did get a Porter Cable 330 speed block which at the time was made by Delta if I recall and he thought it was fantastic which it was and still is other than not dust collection. My first finish sander 1/4 sheet was a Black and Decker with an aluminum base and at the time they did offer one with dust collection yet it was just a bit more than I could afford then I got the exact same tool made in France without it . It did vibrate and the one with the dust port did as well and the system was not 6 holes just one in the center and it did not do much I could see. It was sort of the beginning of dust collection. I still have it and it still works. Point of all this is , my second 1/4 sheet sander was a DeWalt just like the model Porter Cable offers now the one in this review. It came in a box and it ran smooth and sounded great yet being the perfectionist I am I look over tools very well and found the base was convex in the center and saw no reason to try to flatten it so I returned it and got a Makita BO4552 . It also had a plastic base yet it was flat so I chose it even though I had not returned the Dewalt yet so I could compare them. I felt the Dewalt motor sounded better and had a dust bag that slipped on and the fit and finish was not quite like the Makita . I kept the Makita and yes it does vibrate more than I prefer. Later I got another Dewalt same model with a nice case yet it still had the same none flat base. I wonder if the one Porter Cable now offers has the same issue since I have not been able to see one no one has it is stores to see here. I did get an old Porter Cable speed block and replaced the 4 rubber mounds and the rubber drive great sander and an old Makita 4510 because it has the metal base and replaced the mounts Makita used for a long time and the pad . These older tools just ran better and were built better. Yet they do not have dust collection . I don't care for plastic base plates and from all the reviews I've read the only one sold that has is the Bosch . Not that plastic made these days is a bad thing some are as strong as metal and lighter. I called makita because their description of the newest 1/4 sheet offering states aluminum base and the person I spoke to when by the same description and said it had yet one reviewer here on Amazon said it didn't . I'm not sure it matters as long as it's flat. I can't say what it is yet for for some reason I really like the look of the old Dewalt and the new one Porter Cable offers which is the same unit. I want to get one. I liked the way the motor sounded and how it felt. I also looked at the one Milwaukee now offers and how may reviewers talk about how many AMPs a motor has or uses . That may be true to a certain extent relating to power of the tool . I bring this up because if the tools vibrates it loses power and it's not the way to measure a tool . Look at the Porter cable speed block 330 1.2 AMP I see no lack of power there because it's well made and balanced . I really don't need another 1/4 sheet sander yet for the price I may get this Porter cable version of the old Dewalt. At least it has dust collection and most really don't work all that well , I don't see a way to connect a vac to it yet it's been around so long one can still get parts if needed and many seem to like it. I've had all sorts of power tools Milwaukee used to make a real nice 1/2 sheet sander as did Porter Cable I had the Milwaukee ye they sold an kit for dust collection and it was sort of crazy . Dewalt makes a great small plunge router and I had a jig saw they made that I really liked . I am mainly a Makita guy have been for some time also Bosch who makes some really fine tools had a great 3x21" inline belt sander. I do have to wonder why when a company makes a great tool why on earth do they stop making it . Seems to me cordless is the way many go these days I have one Makita 1/2 drill and 6 1/2" circ saw. They work nice yet once the battery pack gets old costs a small fortune to replace them. This is just an up date . I decided to buy this 380 Porter Cable 1/4 sheet sander. It still has the same not flat platen ( plastic base where the rubber pad mounts to} as the last two DeWalts I owned which were the exact same unit I will say I haven't used it yet , I did plug it in and it runs very smooth and feel next to no vibration . It does not have the fit and finish of the Two older Makita's I own yet to be fair the housing is very thick material and I just DO NOT LIKE how all the newer 1/4 sheet sanders have that black rubber all over the housing which they claim helps with holding on and comfort all it is is a dust magnet and it smells horrid , I got a Makita BO4552 in 1995 and even though it has a flat platen I never liked using it because it is like a buzz machine I also got the DeWalt 1/4 sheet the same week and at home Depot they were the same price. To be honest most brands I used are no matter what the company states, some are just a tiny bit better. One that does stand out is the Porter Cable 330 Speed Block it's very smooth and parts are still available . Just my personal opinion. I wish people who write reviews and mention any tool/sander is better than their old one would say what their old one was. I ordered this on the 29th of March and it was shipped through Amazon Logistics and I had no idea what this was . I looked it up and read some reviews and most were not very good and this concerned me. It was to be delivered by 8PM today the 31st and it arrived at 8:45 AM . I have no idea how it works yet the young fellow called me from his phone and said he was by the security gate . The sander was in it's factory box and there is a way to add some info on how and where you want it delivered . This my present an issue if a product was left on a front porch with no gate and perhaps you should and perhaps may have that option if you have it sent as a gift.

Great Little Smooth Sander
Very nice compact sander. Was hoping it would be similar to the old sanders we used in high school decades ago, and it was all that and more. Not at all fatigue-generating, extremely smooth operating, no numb hands with this one. The vacuum system didn't do anything at all, not sure if it even ever could, or maybe our aged, hardened oak dust was just not doable for it? Supposed to pre-poke holes in the sandpaper with a supplied jig for popping the holes through it. After a few hours, there wasn't a speck of dust in the little collection bag, don't know. Nice idea, but it wasn't really important anyway. Nonetheless and most importantly, it didn't flare up the arthritis or shake the fillings out of your teeth. Very nice power tool for a very modest price.

Good quality sander!
I love the way it fits in your hand.It is comfortable to use.It is easy to change sandpaper. The cord is long enough to not need extension cords unless you have a very large Item you wish to sand.

Best palm sander on the market in my opinion.
I rely on a finishing sander every day. This one is my sander of choice. It fits my hand comfortably, it’s reasonably compact & light, it’s speed & oscillation is perfect, & it is reasonably low noise. Louder than some, quieter than others. Works nicely with porter cables very high quality sticky back rolls of sandpaper. I highly recommend.
