The ALPS Mountaineering Velocity air bed is a great air bed whether you have out-of-town guests staying for the weekend or you're camping in the great outdoors. It is composed of a durable, completely PVC-free fabric, that's very lightweight. The coil system used, makes a solid and comfortable sleeping surface for a great night's sleep. The included state-of-the art pump comes with a wall charger and car charger so you can charge your pump wherever you are. The pump inflates and deflates your air bed, which is a great feature. In just minutes, your air bed inflates and is ready to use. When it's time to pack up the air bed, having a pump that deflates your bed is a huge benefit, because it quickly gets all of the air out so you can fold it up and get it compactly back into the included stuff sack.

LEAK
This was my original review ... I wasn't happy ... "leak around the port on the third use. Useless ... 90 bucks down the drain" ... HOWEVER ... 'Brittney' from the ALPS Company contacted me ... they bent over backward to accommodate my unusual situation and my new bed is on it's way!! I actually have another of these twin mattresses and it has held up real well ... I guess that was why I was so disappointed in the second bed ... but this company really stands behind what they sell ... I am VERY IMPRESSED!! BUY ONE!UPDATE ... 3 years and counting ... both mattresses are still on my bed!!

Sturdy, comfy, & non-toxic. Just what I wanted! (Also super easy to use. No fuss.)
When I ordered this ALPS mountaineering Pvc-free air mattress, I really wasn't sure what to expect, considering I had not used an air mattress in years!I was pleasantly surprised upon opening the box. This is definitely PVC-free, and nontoxic. Pvc, as you may know, has an overwhelming, distinct chemical odor of vinyl(pvc=polyvinyl chloride.) so that is certainly as advertised! The mattress arrived neatly folded inside of its own drawstring pouch of the same green color, along with the pump, charger, and a car adapter! And of course the nozzle adapters to fit the inflation opening of the mattress(nozzle adapter has 3 sizes all in one part, only 2 of them are used for this item however as the 3rd size nozzle is way too skinny for either opening.)The mattress is made of a sturdy, strong material. A material that has no odors.I ordered the twin sized mattress.REMINDER!!! The air pump charger must be charged for a full 12 hours before the very first use! So if you need to use the mattress soon after you receive it, you want to plug this in right away! I had read the reviews and description of this note, yet I had forgot it by the time I opened up my mattress and needed to use it.The air pump works well once the battery is charged. If you worry of the small electric pump failing, there are manual pumps that I've seen here on Amazon which you may want to also check out. I think it would be a great backup to have, say for camping or some other outing. The manual air pumps I've seen are quite inexpensive. The pump that was included only took maybe 2 minutes or so to fully inflate the twin air bed.Note that there are two valves that twist open on the mattress. Use the large fully open valve first, to inflate it until it's almost full, then close that one tightly and open the second valve, which only allows air into the mattress, and won't let any air out. If you used only the second smaller valve that doesn't let any air out to inflate it from when it's flat, it would probably take a time longer and may also drain the pump battery faster as another reviewing kindly mentioned. The mattress, once fully inflated, is very comfortable, and is also quite sturdy for an air mattress. Not a lot of bouncing around like you may think of with air beds. It is a very good quality, very comfortable air bed!I haven't yet had to put it back into the pouch that it neatly arrived in, but when I need to, I would first open the large valve and let the majority of the air out on its own, then use the DEFLATE nozzle on the included air pump to remove the remaining air until it's totally flat again and can be easily folded and slid back into the drawstring pouch, which FYI the mattress was not stuffed into upon arrival, rather it had wiggle room enough that when I first opened the mattress pouch I was able to turn the pouch upside down and have the flat folded mattress simply slide right out. Thus, I doubt it will be difficult to pack up the mattress again like unto when it was new.I got this mattress at full price and did not receive any discounts or anything for my review. I'm writing this review so others can learn of my experience with this item. I would definitely recommend it! Two thumbs up!

I use this as my permanent matress!
I was skeptical that a mattress this thin could deliver what I needed but I found this air mattress to be absolutely exceptional!! I was drawn to this product because of its PVC-free fabric. I was looking for an air mattress that would be non-toxic and that wouldn't trap dust mites. I also wanted the mattress to be fairly firm but one that would still have some give since I usually sleep on my side or my stomach. I've been sleeping soundly and happily for two months with this mattress. I have not had to refill it once; the mattress never leaks! (Thank goodness since the air pump was a pain --you have to charge it 12 hours before you can use it, and it doesn't work while plugged in! Which absolutely killed me when I got it because I wanted to try it out immediately.) The mattress also does not act like a cheap air mattress, it feels more like a traditional spring since the inside structure keeps air distributed equally throughout while still allowing for the "give" that an air mattress might have. Overall, I am very pleased and would definitely buy again!

Superb
I'm an OTR truck driver. The XL twin size of this product fits perfect in the lower bunk of a late-model Freightliner Cascadia Evolution and is VASTLY superior to the usual bunk mattress. Different makes of truck have different size bunks-- you gotta measure. I prefer air mattresses even at home, and I've bought quite a few. This is the best quality air mattress I've ever seen, hands down. It's extremely durable and beautifully made, exceptionally flat and comfy, doesn't leak at all, the valve is nicely done, and its placement lets me adjust pressure easily while lying on the bed. It's also "peculiar" in that the material has almost no stretch. Most air beds are made of simple sheet vinyl that stretches A LOT under pressure, so the material is sill taught even when you're not lying on the bed. With this bed adjusted to medium-firm, the shell is almost slack when bearing no weight.

Never going back to cheap, toxic 8" vinyl air beds
Bought this to replace a Coleman-type 8" vinyl mattress; we'd gone through 3 or 4 such mattress and they always start to leak air around the pump assembly. It was time to try something better, and indeed this is so much better. Not being made of vinyl means you don't have that vinyl stench. It's also more compact and lighter than those 8" vinyl air beds, yet the material feels very sturdy, and since there is no internal pump, it won't leak at those seams. The mattress is actually very firm. The pump will not function while plugged in, which is frankly a bit stupid and off putting - we thought it was faulty. Once fully charged, pump is good to inflate the mattress at least twice fully - you get a car plug to recharge on the go. Comes with it's own carry bag, made of the same sturdy material as the bed - not cheap stinky vinyl, and the bag is ample enough that you don't struggle to put the bed and pump into it. Clearly a cut above and seems very durable.

too small and didn't hold air
What we did like was that the ALPS bed did not contain VOC and didn't stink, like typical air mattresses. However, although it states the bed is a queen, we reviewed the dimensions before we ordered, and it was 4 inches less wide than our previous queen air mattress. We had hoped it wouldn't make that much of a difference, but we found that, for us, it did. The ALPS bed is a little longer too, which can be nice for some people., and it is less thick, and definitely packs up much smaller and more efficiently than our previous hardware store air mattress. The pump that came with it pumped the bed up nicely and quick. Our previous air bed had a "flocked" side that help sheets and sleeping beds stay in place. The ALPS bed did not have this - which I thought I would like, but it did mean that we were constantly re-positioning our sleeping bags throughout the night, as each time I went to put my arm under my pillow, there was no sleeping bag there, leading to my arm being cold. Overall, It is a nice-looking bed, and better quality than our previous camping beds, and we might be able to over-look the smaller size and the inconvenience of repositioning our bedding, but it did not hold air sufficiently. The ALPS bed did not lose air entirely, as our previous bed did the last few times we used it, but this one did not stay full. Our first time out (2 nights camping), the air stayed in, but the next time out (2 nights camping) it did lose some air. And when we returned home, we blew it up and just left in on our living room floor without any weight on it over night, and it still lost air. For this reason we will be returning it and just buying a cheaper, typical air bed, as it seems a total lottery whether one can find an air bed that doesn't lose air overnight, so we might as well pay less for one.unfortunately we are 31 days since we bought, and can not return!

Best air bed, non toxic, doesn’t leak, easy to set up
10/10 for this product. No leaking, sets up wit.h self pump in minutes, and no chemicals, non toxic materials (unlike most air beds). This is my 4th air bed, the cheapest and yet the very best. Lies low, so get a cot if that is an issue

Light and comfortable
This is a good mattress, it keeps pressure well. The rechargeable air pups also works very well. I have purchased it to replace a PVC mattress that could not be used because of its odor.

tough. but poorly thought out and pricey
Holds air, solid construction. Cheap air pump and it doesnt have a mouth valve. Big problem for any extensive hiking etc. But it is tough and very comfortable. The storage bag needs some help its oversized and doesnt have any form or compression.
