Beast of a Bike
Bought as a birthday present for a 9 year old boy. Arrived intact, and damage-free. Went together flawlessly, but required adjustment of the derailleur cable (after normal break-in / cable stretch). Also, the disc brake pads / calipers required adjustment, so good thing I worked in a bike shop for 5 years. For the average Dad, this might prove to be frustrating. A local bike shop could adjust everything for you for a fee, but might cost a bit because you didn't but it from them. The bike is heavy, but it rolls over everything. it's a beast! Very well-constructed, and very sturdy. Should last for years to come with shelter and proper maintenance.

Best 20" Fat Tire for the NEW KING O D BLOC
This one came inside another box and looked like it had been moved around alot. I was skeptical upon inspection and took pictures of the areas that looked like they could have damaged the contents. After the removal of the factory box from the outer box I was nervous as I began the retrieval of the contents . The sub assemblies were very well packed from the factory and went together smoothly. The whole back half of the bike with the wheel and derailed already assembled was a relief and after mounting the front wheel, forks and handlebars all that was left was tweaking the adjustment of the rotors. I was AMAZED that Everything was so smooth . This has been the best bike I have ever purchased just for the fact that the pre-asembly was so well done !Thank you! The Mongoose is still the best value for your bicycling buck. I recall back to the seventies when that shiny aluminum silouet ruled the side streets and alleys of my preteen adventures! I could never imagined my kid would be cruising a bike cooler than the one i had back then! FOR AN ELEVEN YEAR OLD THIS BIKE ROCKS!

Hard to Assemble.
It was a pain in the butt to assemble. Gears don’t shift fluidly. Son likes riding it though. If I could do a again I would spend more money for a higher quality bike.

Poor packaging, lady ups had suggested to return package since it opened when she carried it out of the truck. I opted to received the product but parts are misaligned especially the derail shift device, wheels and bearing are hard to turn, brake disc catching on the brake pads due to bad wheel balance. Do not recommend at all. It really looks nice but not worth the money. My kid was very disappointed.

Bold, Smart but not for all kids
Okay, as you all can see in pictures it is one of the real smart and bold looking bikes. It definitely catches attention and your kid might feel that he or she has something exclusive. So let's talk about the usability. While the bike is designed for kids age six and above, I think your kid needs to be at least 7 1/2.Even if with age requirement being met, it is relatively a heavier bike and can be harder for younger kids to give it the speed they want. If your kid ride the bike in the neighborhood with other kids, and as all kids do they also race (kids kind) then he/she will have to work harder. My son is currently 7 1/2 and he found it a just about right for him, he is lean (50 pounds) and about 4 ft 2 inch tall.Few things about assembly (this was my first time ever assembling a bike)1. The package came, pretty much assembled but you will still require the Allen (LN) key 3 different sizes, Philips Screw driver and wrench.2. The rear wheel came attached to the frame and I only needed to install, front wheel, seat and handle.3. It took me about 30 mins to assemble, but wait there was more to do then just assembling.4. As soon as I assembled, I realized that the disc breaks were making sound, and that's when being a first timer started to bother me, as I had no clue what so ever.5. I looked on youtube and found one video particularly helpful (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-T5a6r6RNg)6. I was able to fix the front wheel caliper (hey now I know the part names too ;)), but even after spending apprx. 2 hours, the rear wheel break kept making sound. That also means that rear wheel is constantly in (light) brake mode. I gave up on the rear wheel, do not know if for this reason I will return the bike but for now I am keeping it.And now, at the end when my son took it outside, he was the center of attention and all kids were simply saying "Whoa What a Cool Bike".So at the end I think it is super cool looking and more of a cruiser bike but you just have to make sure it is right bike for your kid. Ans last, though you do not see in pictures the bike comes pre-equipped with light reflectors in front, two back and in wheels.Happy Biking!

Plastic gear derailer broke in a few months!
The bike worked okay for a few months with some minor gear issues from day one. We reached the 6-month point and the plastic gear derailer snapped and bent into the rear wheel. The bike is unusable at this point. I saw by doing an online search of issues with this bike and some reviewers here that this plastic derailer breaking is a common problem. I'm glad that I purchased the warranty. This piece of garbage is going back for a refund and I don't plan on getting a replacement.

Plastic gear in derailleur snapped on use #2!
The bike looks great! It looks the part! However, it does not perform the way it looks. The derailleur comes with plastic gears. We bought this for my 9 year old for Christmas. He rode it twice before the deraillear gear snapped, bent and sheared off the brake attachment. In putting it together, my husband aside that the derailleur gauged into the tire and he had to bend it out some. We will likely return it. My son is so upset!

Quality bike.
For the most part the bike was good. The area where the rear tire is bolted to the bike was bent and I had to take it to a professional to fix it. That may have been a shipping issue however.
