Forget about it. failed security for NYC
If you're like me and you didn't register your $100 New York Fahgettaboudit lock within 15 days of purchase, you might as well start saving for your replacement bike.Stolen in Chinatown early on in the evening, met up with a friend an came back to find it gone. Kryptonite's policy is tough. I understand legalities ect.. but it's a different story when you're unable to stand by your product simply because it's 3 days beyond warranty registration deadlines which aren't even clear or broadcasted. If you want a lock that really does the job I'd take a hint from the delivery NYC delivery guys. 100 lb chains and quick reflexes.. not kryptonite.

Cheap plastic keyhole cover
The keyhole cover is the worst design imaginable. It lets in rain and it's so flimsy it arrived already broken out of the box. There is no excuse for the junk design on this. The keyhole cover should be riveted to the metal and then sealed over with the yellow covering. But no, they cheaped out so badly it's disgusting: two exposed screws on the outside go through the yellow covering. Instead of just the keyhole allowing water into the mechanism, they drilled two additional holes that expose the internal mechanism to water. The problem is even worse. The screws do not screw in to the metal of the cylinder: they screw into another cheap piece of plastic within the cylinder. This is a more than $100 lock, and they gerry rig this plastic all around the keyhole worse than a child's toy. This is guaranteed to let water in and rust out the mechanism. Planned obsolescence.

Still going a decade later
I've had this bike lock since 2007. I ride about once or twice a week around Brooklyn, sometimes Manhattan, for about half the year, and have never had my bike stolen. A few years ago, I found the rubber casing cut open a bit, and the lock and steel itself completely unaffected. Thief thwarted.Thought it was pricey but now it's cost me about $8 for each year I've had it and shows no sign of slowing down.

Da Standard
it's the best overall lock you can buy.....especially when you live in NYC. An expert bike thief is going to take your bike; any bike if they desire to but still, it's the closest thing to safe as far as locks go. The color scheme is immediately recognized; therefore a bit deterring to any thief with amateur tools. This U lock needs to be severed on both sides of the "U". One end will not "swing open". The key seems to open and lock the device fairly well so far. Yes it is heavy and pretty compact giving it the "heavy" stigma but there's no way around it. Due to the compact "U" design, this lock does not fit around my rear tire, a thick pole( poles are such a X factor in NYC) and my seat tube. I've improvised by getting the lock around the rim/pole/seat stays.I do not intend to ever have my bike locked up for long periods of time so this lock is very satisfactory but 2 locks/devices that would require 2 different techniques for a potential thief is your best bet.

New-U New York Fahgettaboudit Mini: Model/UPC 002178
Bought to secure high dollar bicycle investments while I'm away from them. I use different lock/chain/u-locks in order to maximize deterrence and/or slow down thieves the most. Realizing that a determined thief will eventually defeat ANY security measure if given enough time, I chose to go with this New U New York FAHGETTABOUDIT Mini in conjunction with a New York Fahgettaboudit 1415 Chain and New York Disc Bike Lock. I have other bikes which I secure with American Lock A700 and Master Lock 931 padlocks through hardened alloy chains. The 25 year old bent-end Kryptonite long-shackle u-locks in my collection are long since relegated to securing my extension ladders and utility boxes. Next on my list of locks to acquire will be what is considered the most difficult to defeat and toughest u-lock in the world as of 2-6-2019: The Abus Granit Extreme 59. Though it is pricey, the potential cost of replacing the bikes will be worth it. A small investment now may prevent a huge expenditure in the future. Thanks for reading and Bike thieves: ...Fahgettaboudit !!

100% Sicherheit, 0% Alltagstauglichkeit

2kg of peace of mind
I have recently decided to take up cycling, and upon purchasing a £500 bike I felt I needed a fairly hefty lock to keep it safe, now despite my bike being mid range I still wanted to get a top of the range lock due to the area's in which I would have it parked. The Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit seemed perfect, it has the gold sold secure rating and proved to withstand the tests of typical bike thief's on YouTube! The lock arrived nicely packaged, with 3 keys, (1 with a light) and the instructions, paperwork etc and the mount thing. The lock is heavy, there is no getting around that, however it gives you the security suggests, unlike the lighter locks that simply give you the sense of security that may not actually be there. The mount isn't great, and reading other reviews that's easy enough to realize, however I will not drop a star as what you are buying is a lock, and upon research almost every D/U style lock has the same issue, especially one that weighs 2kg. Even the best of mounts will probably leave the lock swinging about and hitting you so its best to either leave the lock around the frame or carry it in a bag. The later of the two options seemingly more convenient as my next point will mention. As you will realize, this lock is small, now there is plenty of room to fit around the bike and most things you would want to mount it to, however it would be a stretch to get it around even one wheel with the frame also, (however there is a trick to get the lock around one wheel and still secure the frame, this I will try and add a photo of at a later date). Due to this, if your bike has quick release wheels you'll want a cable for the wheels.I chose to purchase the Kryptonite cable recommended with the Fahgettaboudit, and this works very easily with the lock to ensure the bike and frame is secure. Some people recommend 2 D/U locks however I think over a wheel I don't see the need to spend all the extra unless your wheels are worth a ton.Despite some complaints of the keys weakness, I have found the lock is extremely easy to use. As long as you push the key right in and turn as the warning label says your fine, and if you haven't pushed it right in, just turn back and try again. A bit of lube could help the lock over time however I don't feel the need for this yet.The lighted key has actually served allot more purpose than I originally thought, the light is very strong and can light up the whole bike in the dark so you can easily navigate and use the lock. Some have also mentioned a weakness in the mechanism that covers the lock hole itself from extreme weather. Personally I find it perfectly fine, it seems to fit well, its strong and slides fine. Its not necessary however just helps to keep the lock in good condition! The lock is super thick, and the U bar would not be cut through by anything other than a heavy duty electric tool. The metal section of the U bar is 18mm with an extra 3mm ish added by the coating on it, so it should scare any thief off straight away.Upon reading, they Kryptonite key system actually sounds pretty great. Firstly they key number comes in either two places. On each of they keys themselves or on a small metal tag on the key ring. I got they numbers on the keys which personally I prefer. It turns out if you happen to lose your keys, Kryptonite will initially send you 2 extra keys free of charge, and it is only after this that you will have to pay for extra keys, and at $10 for a few keys, (£7 ish I assume for the UK) it sounds great! They offer protection for bikes of very large value (Cannot remember exactly how much) however you can be sure this lock will cover any insurance plans you may have.Overall a great lock and if you can Fahgettaboud the weight, is the best protection you can get for your bike.

you better bring a bulldozer with you
What can I say? If you wanna take my bike while it's locked with this lock, you better bring a bulldozer with you. Really thick, really heavy (around 2kg) and really strong. You feel safer just by looking at it!It's expensive yes, but, how much money are you protecting with this?
