The cure for fan failure in Antminers
The fans for Antminers are unusual --- sustained speeds of 5000 rpm, PCM control with tachometer feedback, 38 mm thick with a 4-wire connector that deviates somewhat from the motherboard standard. If you try to replace such a fan with an ordinary 120 mm computer fan, it quite probably won't work. The Antminer controller board wants to see the fans operating at a sustained high speed before it will attempt to start mining. This fan is a drop-in replacement for the Bitman fans.If your Antminer has been working and then just stops one day, look in the Kernel Log. If the last line reports a failure because of fan speed, you probably need to replace one or perhaps both fans (they sometimes fail in pairs --- odd but true). This can be the case even if the fans seem to be spinning at speed --- the fan must not only work, but the controller must see it working through the tachometer. Sometimes it's the controller board, but usually it's the fans. Fan replacement is easy, requiring only a Philips screwdriver.
