Works GREAT !
Got this for my KLR650 to ride on forest roads and etc. I ride Mainly in central GA , on WMA, and National Forests. So I haven't taken out of state yet, but it works GREAT ! It finds roads that been closed for years and every trail in my area. I can zoom in to see where it goes and it's right on . Easy to update maps via WiFi. I did make my own special mount for it to go onto my handle bars and sometimes the screen is a little hard to see. Because the sun. But the bigger version of this was too big for my bike. Otherwise I'm very happy with this product.

really bad device
This device is very poorly made and designed. The touchscreen is horrible and not sensitive. The screen is so dim you can't see it in daylight. Most riding is done in the day. The user interface is very cumbersome. The battery lasts about 15 min max and it needs to be plugged in. Mine shuts down after about 1 hour of use and will not start up, even on the charger...it is completely frozen. It is as if it overheats and has to rest for a few hours before it will start. Useless for long trail rides. Don't buy it. I think it is horrible.

Nice but the 7 is nicer.
Should have gotten the 7 as the screen is a bit small but it works. Battery life is short but I use it plugged in to the UTV.

Street navigation review
I purchased the TR5 about a week ago and have been using the street navigation around town to get used to using it. I have not gone off road with it yet, so these comments are only about the street navigation. If your purpose is off-road only, then you can stop reading. I can't comment on that part, yet. I have been using a 7 in screen Magellan 9020 that I had mounted down low on the passenger side for about 4 years on road trips. I definitely notice the 2 inches less of screen, but I purposely bought a smaller screen unit so it could be placed on top of the dash to the left of the instrument cluster without blocking too much of the view out of the windshield. My kids will begin sitting in the front seat soon, so I needed to relocate the nav system. General comments on map display compared to what I was used to on the 9020... There is too much of the screen blocked off by data display fields. The data display fields are transparent so that, in theory, the map display underneath is still visible, but it's too dark. Not transparent enough. The entire bottom 20% or so of screen is dedicated to recording your GPS tracks in an off-road scenario, and it's only about 4 touch buttons and a time and distance counter display taking up all that space. On a 5 in screen, that's a lot of real estate wasted for just a couple of buttons. I understand that the unit is geared toward off-road trail navigation and track recording, but it is advertised to be used as a street navigator as well, and I'd like to have seen this feature take less of the screen away when street navigating. The upper 20% of the screen is dedicated to navigation information (distance to next turn, direction of next turn, street name, etc). Again, I think this field could be smaller. In all fields, the font size is too small and fine. They block off big chunks of the map to display data, and then they display the data in a tiny font that barely uses half the space that is blacked out by the field. Big gripe for me. Either make the font size bigger and bolder to make the data legible with a quick glance and to make use of the space you've taken away from the map, or take less area away from the map. The one glaring omission is ability to display total distance remaining to destination. Perhaps I've missed it, but I haven't found anywhere that this can be displayed on screen. It's the one thing I like to see all the time when on a road trip, and I'm disappointed it's not there. There is a field where you can display speed, elevation, ETA, and compass direction (your choice of all 4 at once or only one of the 4). But, total remaining distance is left out. ETA is a surrogate, but I'd rather see miles remaining and make my own estimate on time based upon whether I know I'll be stopping on the way. They seem to have dropped street data from the database to make room for the off road data (maybe). It doesn't find my home address, which is a regular address in a normal residential area, nothing obscure. I have trouble finding some simple things like McDonald's or major retailers with the search feature. Maybe I'm not doing the search right, which means the interface is not very intuitive. And, it's not close to google. It doesn't interpret slight differences in spelling or grammar, so you may have to try several ways of entering the search string before finding what you want. I checked the campground search, and it seemed to only pull up commercial-type campgrounds or RV resorts. It didn't find any of the national forest campgrounds that I have been to that I tried searching by name. I found that disappointing given that this unit is supposed to be for the outdoor enthusiast. I hope the off-road navigation works really well because the on-road bit is not so great. It's livable, but not great. So far, I like the concept of the trxtrailhead.com accompanying website for off-road route planning. I've surfed around it, but I haven't made use of it, yet, for an actual excursion. I'm not a serious off-roader. Just planning on exploring some places off the beaten path, many in desert terrain in southern California where one dry wash can look just like another, so the GPS will be useful. On-road, I think I'd rather have my old 9020, but its map is outdated, and Magellan's update system doesn't seem to work. And as others have mentioned, Magellan's customer service hasn't been responsive.

Very disappointed with Magellan TR5 BUT even more disappointed with Magellan TRX Tech Support
Bought TR5 in spring of 2018. Out of the box, it locked up. Tech support sent another one. That one boots up fine, but problems don't end there. Where to start, probably in order of discovery. 1) Battery is horrible. 2) Street names don't get any bigger upon zooming in. 3) Screen reflects everything and is hard to read. 4) Available font size, there is only 1, is not big enough to read from a few feet away. 5) Unit does not ship with a manual. 6) Software is NOT intuitive. Now up to present time, 7/6/2020, waiting for tech support to respond to e-mail, tech support to busy to pick up phone. 7) Unit does not "see" micro card, can not upload satellite imagery to unit which cost, 8) $29.99+ tax per year and You can only, 9) download 2 GB per day of satellite data.UPDATE :(7/29/2020) Very disappointed with Magellan TRX Tech Support. There seems to be only one person in Magellan Tech Support. That person has either never seen a Magellan TR5 or they just don't care. Not sure which. She (Tech Support) seems to be clueless in the operation of the Magellan TR5.Below is copy of last e-mail to Magellan TRX Tech Support."Dear Magellan Tech Support,After almost 4 weeks of working with Magellan TRX support, After buying a 64gb micro. After finding out unit will not recognize 64 gb micro, even though Magellan web site says it will. After buying 32gb micro. After reformatting micro and making sure it was fat 32, at the advise of TRX support. After buying TRX7 “upgrade” for $400 from Magellan TRX support. After documenting the “problem” ,with photos. After more than a dozen emails with Magellan TRX Support concerning trouble shooting the “problem” with the TR5. After realizing the “This is not a manual” that ships with the TR5, is in fact not a manual. After going online to the Magellan web sight and downloading the TR5 Manual. (Manual should ship with product.)After ALL of the above, come to find out, the TR5 will not “Store Imagery on microSD”. It will only store to internal memory. Quote from the TR5 manual page 30."Note: Satellite imagery is saved to the TR5’s internal storage. To save space, delete all unused satellite map areas from your Saved Maps once you’ve finished using them.”One of two things has happened. Either Magellan TRX Support does not have a TR5, OR … Magellan TRX support has a TR5 and access to the internet to download pdf of TR5 Manual, but did not look at either one. Either excuse is unacceptable.I am now out the cost of return shipping of TRX7, the cost of a 64gb and 32 gb micro sd. The cost of a subscription to satellite imagery that can not be used because more storage is needed than just internal.Need I say that, I am not happy."
