Great bit of kit!
I have to say it's a great bit of kit! Cleaned my rollers and brushes in under 20 seconds!Unfortunately it seems this product has been reviewed by idiots that don't know how to use it, or have stupidly unrealistic expectations (like trying to remove dry paint by spinning the roller! I mean come on!!! Use your common sense! Once it's dry it's too late!)I found that if you have 2 large buckets, one filled with water, and the other is to be left empty. Then spin the roller or brush in the water filled bucket, then spin it dry in the empty bucket. This saves a lot of time, and my rollers have come out spotless and dry in under 20 seconds!Highly recommend, but you need to understand how to use this product! (P.s. always spin rollers in a clockwise direction, otherwise the internal thread of the spinner will unwind and loosen).People have complained about not gripping brushes properly, but if you know how to use the product well you will have no problems. Just takes common sense.

Best product for removing paint from brushes and rollers on the market.
Best product for removing paint from brushes and rollers on the market without question. Works with both water and spirit based paints products.Once you have used them to clean your equipment after painting you'll wonder how you ever managed before you used a Dandy. Not only quick to clean but, the brush or roller being cleaned can immediately then be used to used to paint a completely different colour without any fear (at all) of colour contamination. Even when switching from Black to white paint!!!No more having to keep buying new brushes and rollers. This product cleans them as good as new each time. The money you'll spend on this kit will be a tiny fraction on what you'll spend in the future continually buying new brushes and rollers over and over again. One word for you. "Indispensable!"

a great gadget
Having owned & used the original product for over a decade (probably more like two decades) & now having purchased the new version, should tell you that I love the product. Mine lives in the power drill box, so I always know where it is. It is not a miracle solution, if your brushes are covered in dry paint, or you do not clean your brushes regularly, you will still end up with manky brushes. However if used correctly, this handy dandy will keep your brushes looking like new.It is expensive for what it is, however, being a very small company, it is understandable. Shame it cannot be taken up by a large chain, then I'm sure cost would tumble. Customer service is first class, it is easy to sell something, but you can only tell how good a company is when things go wrong. I had an issue with the postage, it was sorted swiftly and courteously & even with compensation to cover petrol costs.I agree with all of Jims recommendations and would like to add a few of my own,d) Clean the brush regularly, at every tea break is ideal. With water based paints, every 1/2 hour or so as it dries quickly. This will stop the paint congealing and also stop a build up of paint near the ferule, which can then run down the handle when painting inverted. It takes longer for the kettle to boil than it does to clean the brush.e) Treat yourself to a top quality set of Harris or Purdy brushes. Using the dandy will keep them like new, providing you clean them regularly.f) Have a dry run with your new gadget. For example I found that my cheap B&Q brush handles were hollow & snap when used with the dandy. My Harris roller would not fit, due to burrs on the inside of the roller. Easily solved by scraping with a Stanley knife.g) don't bother with this bucket & bin liner malarkey. When at the decorator centre, ask for a cardboard box of the type wallpaper comes in (the shop only throw them away) this is tall but slim, ideal for spinning the brushes.h) After cleaning, always put the brush back in it's sleeve or put a band of paper around the bristles & secure with sticky tape (don't use a lacy band, it will distort the brush shape) to keep the shape of the brush. The spin off.Which is better, new or old?For brushes, the original was quicker to insert the brush, just push it in, however the spring retainer badly marks wooden handles and some brushes with thicker handles (my favourite Homebase brushes) are a bit of a struggle to fit, so the new version, whilst taking a little longer to insert and centralise the brush, is the winner.oh dear oh dear oh dear, moving onto roller cleaning, the original dandy was a two part item, the roller cleaner was totally separate. It held the roller in the same way as a roller frame, a circular disc at either end to fully support the roller. A simple snap on/off adapter catered for 45 or 38mm rollers. Very good, very simple. The new item is a combined brush/roller cleaner. Whilst the end near the drill remains similar with a stepped collar, the other end now have jaws and a silly plastic thingy (bound to get lost) that screws between the jaws and is fitted in two different ways depending on the size of the roller. No matter how I tried, actually nearly breaking the dandy by screwing the jaws too tightly, I could not get the jaws with the spacer small enough to fit my 45mm roller. What you actually have to do is fit the spacer thingy hand tight only, squash the jaws together with one hand, slide the roller on with another and hold the drill with your third hand :osLooking at the roller, it can be seen that the force of the jaws pushing out is distorting the roller into an oval. Whilst it will probably do no harm, it really is a step backwards compared to the original. A little more design work is needed. If we cannot have the original stand alone roller cleaner back, then at least a proper circular roller retainer should be supplied.

Just brilliant. Simply and brilliant.
This thing is amazing. I'm always a little dubious about these "time saving" gadgets, as nine times out of ten you end up spending so much time cleaning or setting them up that it's quicker to do it the old fashion way. NOT SO WITH THIS! I've been varnishing all the doors in my house and this has enabled me to paint a door in a lunch hour, clean the brush in about two minutes, then varnish another door later in the day. I set the Dandy in the drill chuck and set it down next to a bucket, my white spirit and a little tray. After doing the door I pop outside, insert the brush into the Dandy and spin it for around 10 seconds. Then I remove it from the Dandy, give it a good clean in the white spirit and then another 10 seconds in the Dandy. That's it, job done, the brush is clean enough to put away for the next door. I don't need to use hot, soapy water, because there's so little varnish and paint left in the brush it's not worth the faf. I immediately ordered one for my dad.

Effective, but too fragile
While this product definitely works (I used it on 2" & 3" brushes and it dries them to a usable condition immediately), it suffers from being very fragile. Mine exploded after about 10 uses, which didn't suprise me as its all plastic construction would wobble and threaten to break everytime you spun it with a heavy, wet brush on the end I'm now looking at metal-body manual alternatives- which are also cheaper by a little.
