Great results from a well priced & well made lens.
Excellent lens for the price. I am an amateur photographer who purchased this as all purpose lens for some family portrait photography and some outdoor shots while walking.I am able to produce great portrait shots with sharp faces and perfectly blurred backgrounds. The zoom allows me to do this without getting too close to the subject which makes for more natural 'in the moment' shots.I also take this with me out in the Peak District and have snapped some great landscape shots while the zoom also allows me the occasional up close picture of birds and animals without creeping through the long grass or scaring them off.The lens feel well built and I have never worried that it is fragile when I take it out and about on a walk. For its size the lens if fairly lightweight and has good balance even when used on a smaller DSLR body. The AF is virtually silent and fast to react which was important to me.I appreciate the the hardcore professional photographer may find fault in the sharpness of the images but for the price i consider this a great buy and would recommend to anyone who uses their DSLR as a hobby or is just starting out in getting to grips with a zoom lens. I use this with a D5300 and I am more than happy with the results.

Best zoom lens for the money and compared to much more expensive ones
This lens has great sharpness at 200-270mm and it just gets a little less sharp but only a little when you zoom in to 300mm. Even compared to much more expensive lens that are 3 times or more the price of this one, the quality that you're getting out of them is not even twice better than this quality that you get from this lens. The lens is a no brainer at the price of 212£ that I bought it for down from 379 pounds. You can't beat it. People say it is made out of plastic. So what ? I've been using my 18-55 plastic kit lens and I've never had issues. An advantage of this lens if you have a DX format camera is that you are practically getting a lot more zoom than it says in the lens due to the1.5x crop factor. 70mm is becoming 105mm and 300mm are realistically 450mm on your DX camera like the Nikon d5500 which I have. You really can't beat that quality and not only for the price but overall can you imagine paying for a lens that costs 4x times more just to get a little bit better performance only ? Oh and the reason the lens is cheap is not because it is made out of plastic but because it has a lowest F of 6.3 when it is at 300mm. But it won't let you down trust me. It's absolutely great for wildlife photography and much much better than Tamron's equivalent.

I read all the articles I could find on this lens and all seemed very happy with the lens
I have the tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD which i've used for the past 18 month's and I found that up to 200mm it was clear and crisp but above that it became very soft and stopping down to f10 was the only way of getting a crisp shot, I read all the articles I could find on this lens and all seemed very happy with the lens, it arrived today but by the time I got home the light was starting to go so I took a few shots of specific areas on the mountain behind my house as it's somewhere i'd photographed in all conditions with the tamron, f6.3 at 300mm gave me a shot way better than the tamron at f10, in fact it's the sharpest shot i've ever got with any lens on the mountain, it does have a plastic mount but that shouldn't be a problem, it is as light as a feather compared to the tamron, it focuses so fast and the motor is so quiet I thought the VR wasn't working, the VR works well allthough you don't notice to start with, it doesn't grab hold and lock on like the tamron but it's good enough to shoot birds flying without any jerkiness or blurring, static objects are crystal clear, i've photographed buzzards here hundreds of times with marginal results but focused on a crow this evening as he was coming in to land and there's not even a trace of blur in any of the shot's, if you don't have a hangup about plastic mounts and have a compatable camera then you won't be wasting your money, it might be a budget telephoto lens but the images speak for themselves

Fantastic Lens
So I bought this lens after I had been using my Nikon D3400 for a while with the 18-55mm lens that came with it after I had been thinking..I need more zoom. So, this came in its wonderful packaging (and arrived on time) and I was very impressed with it at first glance. I have been using this lens for about 2 months now, taking and testing it to different situations. Its fair to say, it does the job very well! The quality at 300mm is amazing and I also agree with others on here that the autofocus is quick and very silent. Even for an entry level DSLR like mine, the photos are always crisp and sharp when I use this lens. It is 100% good value for money and it is light as well. What is flawed though is the minimum aperture imposed to the lens at 300mm (which is f/6.3) so it is not good in the low light situations. I have also noticed the ever so little amount of chromatic aberration in some of my photos (contrasting black on white) which produces a blue hue. I'm not sure if this is down to my camera or the lens but it does appear frequently. But don't let this distract you from the fact that it is a good lens for the money. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend to anyone who either is just a beginner or a real enthusiast.

What a bargain!
Reasonable price for a marvellous little telephoto lens, it’s quiet, quick to focus and I’m amazed at the sharpness and contrast for such an inexpensive lens. Build is all plastic but that keeps the weight down, it’s the glass that matters. Glad I didn’t buy a faster more expensive lens as this one has vibration reduction which is superb. Who needs f2.8?
