MANDY'S SHORTS Dean Yeagle Hardcover – 1 January 2007

Yeagle has the craftsmanship that clearly comes many years of life drawing. While his characters have the simplicity, liveliness and in many cases exaggeration of the best kind of cartooning, his understanding of realistic anatomy is on a level not not really seen anymore in today's animation, illustration or graphic novels. A great buy for veteran or aspiring artists.

What I like best about Mandy is that Yeagle "sees" her as men see the women in their lives. The glances and poses that truly entice us aren't the provocative, overly sexual, direct images we see in adult mens magazines, but the casual ones we get to see on a regular basis and in normal poses. She fits perfectly with the Playboy persona because while she might not exactly be the girl next door, she is the type of girl that a guy would move just to be next door to her.Mandy's nudity, while completely and unashamedly erotic, is also innocent - almost accidental (well, sometimes it IS accidental...) - and never prurient in its presentation. She's the perfect girl. Her pig-tails imply youth and a vivaciousness, while her skimpy outfits imply a complete acceptance of her body. Guys like girls who are proud of their body and not always making excuses to cover it up, and certainly not lambasting men for wanting to look.

Dean Yeagle is a genius. Now his storytelling is even better when he adds words to it. Mandy has some weird dreams. I wonder if she's always naked in her dreams?
