Does this work on thick high pile plush carpet?

It is available to use on the carpet, but not completely flat on the carpet.

If I wear athletic shoes on the mat, will it get marred (marked/scuffed from shoes)?

If you wear those shoes outside and they are just for inside - Yep…I used this folding mat to travel and my shoes had something on them that got on the mat. I just wiped down the mat and though there is a mark on it, I know I cleaned it.
