The Common Maker adds a common connection "C" to any popular Wi-Fi thermostat. It requires a minimum of 2 wires to operate. If your system does not have an accessible 24V transformer (typically R-C terminals on the equipment control board), then an external transformer will have to be installed to power the thermostat and Common Maker. The Common Maker is designed to power Wi-Fi and other powered thermostats requiring up to 4VA and is compatible with all major name brand powered thermostats. Some systems have complex wiring (ex. zone valves) such that a professional may be required to complete the installation correctly
