Kidde i4618 Firex Hardwire Ionization Smoke Detector with Battery Backup (8 Pack), White

I recently purchased these to replace the ones that had been in the house for 10 years. I thought they were affordable and were packaged well. They went in with no problem. After I killed the power going to the existing units, I just loosened the screws that held the base plate of the original detector to the ceiling, slid the old base plate on and tightened the screws back. I loosened the wire nuts that held the old hard wired female fire alarm wiring harness (three wires - white, black and red) and I attached the new Kidde i4618 fire alarm harness to the same wires, using the same wire nuts that the old wiring harness used. I plugged the new wiring harness female end into the back of the alarm and snapped in onto the base plate. Done. The units came with a back-up battery, which by he way is accessible from the front of the unit. Our last ones were not, you have to pull them off the base plate to change the back-up battery. The units work great and were easy to install. I did seven of them in about 30-45 min.

I bought these thinking they came with an adapter to go from the "Firex" wire connection to "Kidde Firex" (because the title says Firex Hardware), but I was wrong. I replace 8 of the Firex 120-1182B detectors without a problem, but I had to rewire each one of them (with the included wire harness) and use the new Kidde base. It was an easy job and the detectors seem to be working fine. I'm fully satisfied. The detectors are, in my mind, a great value, and I'm completely satisfied.

Installation was a snap. I had to replace 8 of these which took me about an hour. I switched out the old smoke detector, the old base and screwed the new base in and attached this smoke detector. Hard wiring is easy as the old smoke detectors had the same kind of wire, so I just left that in place and connected it to these units. These already come with a backup battery in place, all you have to do is pull the plastic tab, and you are set to go.My old alarms were about 12 years old, and some of them had already failed. These have been up for nearly a month and I have not had a false alarm, as some reviewers have reported. These are also well priced and worth it, just for peace of mind.

These were replacements for the previous version from Kidde. They mounted with the same screw spacing as the older units so they were very easy to install. All the hardware is included for drywall mounting if necessary.The only issue I had was with the power supply wiring. Although a direct replacement for the older units, these had a different plug arrangement from the previous ones. It required removing the old plug wires and connecting the new ones to the wires in the ceiling instead. This is not difficult to do, but did make the job take much longer than I anticipated. The 9v backup batteries are generic as they were previously. In the older units the low battery warning started chirping after about six months. I replaced them with lithium 9v to avoid low battery warnings in the middle of the night. Be sure to test yearly, though.Trusted previous brand experience and fully satisfied with this product.

Great price, arrived fairly quickly, well packaged, easy to install and worked well. Had all 8 of these installed in less than 45 minutes (would have been less, but I had to change the 3-wire connector on each of the alarms). Easy to put in and worked as well if not better than the old alarms. Next time I need to replace these I will definitely purchase from this vendor again.

Had them up for a week and so far no false alarms. The front access battery compartment is a big improvement over the 12 year old Firex 120-1072B units these replaced. If you are comfortable with basic wiring, these will be easy to install. If you don't want to do any wiring, buy the adapter kits. I needed two of the adapters so that I would not have to do wiring on the top rung of the tallest step ladder I own. The adapters worked very well. You can order the adapters from Home Depot for store pick-up at the best Amazon price and don't have to buy them as an "add on" to a larger order. Installing these smoke detectors is an appropriate do-it-yourself project for almost anybody.

The wiring harness is did not match up resulting in having to rewire each one of these smoke detectors. On top of that, they actually sold a kit that was supposed to take care of having to rewire and literally plug-in however the pin configuration did not match up as well. All in all, it was a complete and Autre waste of several hours.

This is a good choice when replacing smoke detectors in a residential application. These detectors are affordable and easy to install. They come with the mounting bracket, three wire pigtail, and 9 V battery. Once installed, the battery can be replaced annually by simply opening the door on the front without having to take detector off the mounting bracket.These detectors can be installed in a stand alone arrangement or with the interconnected (red) wire where all the interconnected alarms go off when one is activated. Installation is pretty straightforward but does require turning off the breaker, removing existing mounting bracket, removing the existing wire connector from old detector, and the ability to use wire nuts properly.
