Could have been a decent purchase, but....
I have had a Tilley hat in the past and was looking forward to getting LTM5 hat as a lightweight option. It has a good look and a good shape, especially when you see the pictures online. Unfortunately, the delivery did not meet expectations. The hat came in a small box and when I opened it skeptically, I found that the hat had been folded down into 6ths and stuffed into a plastic bag. The brim was creased at each point and no amount of time spent shaping it would give it an appearance better than an old booney hat that had been stuffed in a pocket.Tilly hats are renown for the ability to pack it, but they always recommend pushing the crown down and packing it with the brim flat. It may have saved the hat to have shipped it in this fashion, but when the brim is permanently creased at points all around, it looks terrible. Not the high-end experience that I was expecting, considering my happiness with my old Tilley hat. I will not comment about the quality of the hat, the craftsmanship, etc. It would be unfair to do that considering that the main reason to buy this hat is for the look, comfort, coolness and how it holds its shape. None of which I could do, considering I could not get past the inability to shape the brim into any wearable configuration.Rather than giving a vindictive 1 star, I gave a 2 star rating because I am not sure with whom the fault lies. I have a hard time believing that Tilley had shipped it out to retailers in that little bag, considering that it is their recommendation that it is stored flat. The sticker on the bag made me believe it was the retailer (Think Fast) that packaged it that way, but it could have been Amazon since they fulfilled the order and shipped it out.I am hesitant to reorder through Amazon for another hat, as I do not want to duplicate the issue. I am sure with all the positive reviews that I have read, that others have not had my experience with how it was delivered. I just wanted to give feedback on my experience so that others could make an informed purchase, and so that the party responsible for this situation could benefit from changing packaging practices that led to my being delivered an unwearable hat.

Shipping method makes this a no go!
Hat was crammed into a bag and plastic envelope. The brim was permanently bent as far as I could tell, soaking in water didn't help. Looking for a better supplier. Can't been Amazon's price, but no price justifies this shipping method. The would've been great if not for the permanently bent brim; I give the hat 5-stars.FYI, I got at similar style Stetson, it was shipped in a flat box, hat was smashed, but brim was in tact. It recovered as designed. The stetson is a complimentary style, looks great

the hat is as expected, tilley quality and fit ...
The hat was as expected, tilley quality and fit. The problem was with how it was shipped. The hat was folded up into a small ball which left the brim distorted when opened up. The brim had deep creases in it and had to be wetted down and ironed to return it to somewhat wearable shape. Not the usual Amazon shipping.

Good sun-blocking hat for windy conditions, good ventilation, great quality.
Great hat with good ventilation. Very high quality materials and workmanship. The brim is not too big (doesn't look like a Cowboy hat), but not too small (still shades your face). I have taken it fishing and it stays put in light/medium wind very well.Only a couple of very small beefs, both minor:1) The light color shows dirt on the liner. It's a balance between a light color to keep cool and it showing dirt. I usually take comfort over how it looks (when off my head) so I wear it a lot! It's washable so just wash it from time to time.2) It is delivered all flattened and wadded up. When you get it, it's hard to imagine that it will ever get a normal shape, but it does eventually. The only reason this is a beef is that that it arrived just before I went on vacation and I could not imagine it looking good, so I left it at home. I didn't know it just took a little time and wearing it for it to get it's normal shape.Overall, it's a very nice hat that I wear a lot. Five stars.

good looking hat
It is a good looking hat. Shape is what I wanted in a brim. Brim size is smaller, which I also wanted. Unsure how effective the ventilation is. A brisk walk in 50 degree weather will produce perspiration for me. The sweat band is indeed wicking, but transfers sweat right up the crown. The entire crown is soaked with perspiration. As well made as the hat is, it seems the sweat band is lacking in design and (or) materials. I cannot imagine a round of golf in 85-90 degree temps. Instructions indicate that hat will deteriorate from perspiration if not kept washed. That would require an inordinate amount of cleanings just to wear the hat. I have other hats and this one will probably not receive much use. Unfortunate.

Love Tilley hats and the Olive is lovey...
I bought a similar Tilley hat in the Plum and received many compliments so ordered this one. I kayak a lot and it's SPF 50, stylish and covers better than a ball cap. I had read the review that others had received this hat crumpled and it didn't uncrumble. Well this Tilley came from a different dealer an it came with a torn envelope package and all crumpled up in a plastic bag unlike my 1st Tilley from a different seller. I'm returning it.

AWSOME HATS
I own at least 6 tilley hats. I've worn ball caps most my life and destroy them so fast with sweating. Now that I'm 56 I have to cover ears, neck, nose and face. The Tilley is the ticket. Started wearing on are annual Maui trips years ago. This green tilley I wear at work to cover head between jobs. Then I have put a hard hat on. Great hats. I wear usually 7.5. I ordered this one in 7 3/4 and I love it. Most my other Tilley are 7 5/8. Get yours 1 to to sizes bigger when ordering.

Indiana Jones would love this hat
When you wear this hat, you look like Indiana Jones. If you want to look like Indiana Jones, buy this hat. Now, it's not leather and it doesn't come with a whip or a shoulder bag for carrying stolen idols, so you won't really look like Indiana Jones, but the shape and size is 100% Indy.In all seriousness, it's a sharp looking hat, the wind retention thing works surprisingly well, it's made to last, it floats, it's lightweight. The fact that you look like a movie star wearing it is a secondary feature.

Boiled Head
My LTM5 Airflow hat fits me OK and in every other respect seems fine except for one big problem. My partially bald head boils in this hat. If you are walking any sort of distance and you need protection from the sun's rays then this is not the model too choose. The hat is made of nylon and polyester. This reminds me of the first nylon drip dry shirts back in the sixties. The joke was that you were dripping with sweat within a few minutes of wearing them, and therefore you were never dry. The wicking properties of this hat are in my experience zero. Maybe this doesn't matter in the tropics as you are sweating so much you hardly notice the sweat running down your face. When I complained to Tilley's customer service, the woman who dealt with my complaint even agreed with me! She said she owned one herself and hardly ever used it preferring other models instead. It's my own fault for not buying a cotton hat. Unfortunately, it won't be from Tilley as this experience has put me off them for life as I'm down £68.

They are a wonderful product
I have had one of these for years and loved it. I lost it and after about four weeks of searching, bought this new one. I put my name and phone number inside as I had with the other one - and within a week the original's had turned up. I have never worn the new one, but as I had put my details inside - could not return it!

Great hat but needs a size between 8 and 8+
Great hat but had to return the 8 because it was too short front to back despite being wide enough. Ordered an 8+ which is a lot bigger than the 8. I've adjusted the strap at the back but it's really wide. I'll keep it because it's the only hat that I could find that was big enough. Don't expect to measure your head and to have a perfect fit because it doesn't take into consideration the length and width of your head.

Wish I had bought one years ago
I had been thinking of getting a Tilley hat for about a year but was always put of by the price. Eventually I found one on Amazon at a good discount so took the plunge and it arrived in time for a trip down to Cornwall. It really is a brilliant bit of kit with little touches that make you realise what you are paying for. For example the chin strap, which was used extensively in Cornwall to stop the hat making a bid for freedom in the strong winds, can be adjusted to be a 'back of head strap' as used by the Canadian Mounties. I was sceptical at first put this feature really did work even in fairly blowey conditions. The hat sits low on your head and feels slightly lose at first (make sure you size it correctly following Tilley's instruction) but you get used to it very quickly. It is incredibly comfortable to wear and now I never leave home without it!

Great quality, lifetime guarantee.
This a great hat for three seasons, it is not a hat for a cold winter day, not designed to be so. (I have a Tilley Winter hat for the winter.) For rest of year, unbeatable, and has a lifetime guarantee. I highly recommend Tilley hats.
