do not buy this book- it is horrible
The CD's that come with this book are utter crap. Some of the activities are mislabeled, for instance: Intro Unit Day 3 Ex. 2...First of all, there is no exercise 2 for day three. It is supposed to say Ex. 1. This is not a single occurrence either. Throughout the CD's there are numerous days that are mislabeled, which makes it confusing when trying to do the homework. On the homework exercises, there are many instances where what the characters are saying doesn't match up with what is written on the homework sheet. These CD's are way too sloppy and bad for what I paid for them. I am not happy. In addition, there are many, many typos and grammatical errors in the book. I don't accept that from an almost 200 dollar book. I'm very upset that I paid that much money, and this is what I have to show for it.I don't know what happened. I bought Live From Russia Stage 1 last semester and everything worked perfectly. This one, however, doesn't and should not be anything close to the listed price. What a ripoff.

Excellent
Having taken Russian classes for almost eight years now, I can say that this is without the best textbook of all the ones I've used (I originally used Russian Face to Face and Golosa). Dr. Martin has a very good understanding of what gives native English speakers the most trouble with Russian and targets those problems effectively and efficiently in the book. Includes charts of all the cases, regular and irregular verb conjugations. Each chapter has summaries of each lesson putting what you learned in context and explaining why the grammar is the way it is. Highly recommend this to any student of Russian, despite the high price.

Poor organization, insufficient chapter glossaries
Poor organization, insufficient chapter glossaries, incomplete grammar appendices with poor explanations. This textbook is organized completely backwards, with exercises coming first, and then low-quality grammar appendices at the end of each chapter, and additional appendices in the back of the book. The content of the referenced appendices in the workbook too often do not correspond with the relevant material. Overall this book made learning intermediate level Russian harder than it needed to be, in my opinion. I don't recommend this for the classroom or for autodidacts.

Demanding a new workbook
The workbook volume 1 was ripped into pieces and I am missing an entire semester worth of homework. The way they had packaged the product made it look like a complete package and it wasn't until I opened it that I realized that I had been cheated. I ordered early so that they wouldn't run out and now I'm unable to do my homework at all.

WATCH OUT - ONLY the WORKBOOK!!
NOT a CONTENT REVIEW - this Amazon page has photos of the textbook AND workbook - thought I was getting both - but you only get the workbook! A 236-page paperback workbook for basically $200. Sadly, as a college professor, I know too well the RIDICULOUS prices of textbooks for our students. This is nothing but GREED and FALSE ADVERTISING.
