Hugo Naturals Shampoo, Vanilla & Sweet Orange, 12 Ounce Bottle

I have struggled with extremely tangled hair my whole life, particularly when wet/damp. In addition to the horror that was involved with brushing my hair after washing it, I also had a strange frizzy, inconsistent, hair texture. I always just assumed that genetics had simply cursed me with terrible hair, an oily scalp, and an eclectic assortment of curly/wavy/straight patches that would always be too wild to wear out in public without tons of hair product and/or heat. Everything involving the taming of this head was a nightmare and I avoided it as much as possible. In addition having a mind of its own, my hair was also appearing to thin out significantly. A few years ago I grew hip to the disturbing ingredients in a lot of the common household items I had been using and switched over to predominantly organic and safe products. Originally I had tried the H&D Naturals shampoo and conditioner in tea tree and started noticing a slight improvement in my overall hair quality. Slowly my hair began to feel as if it were thickening back up, yet miraculously it was also becoming softer and easier to manage. I recently decided to switch things up a bit and try the shea butter and oatmeal combo and all I can say is WOW. It truly is amazing. My hair has gone from ok, to the best it has ever been. It is soooo soft and easy to brush now. I hardly spend any time styling it anymore. It air drys wonderfully and these locks have never felt and looked so healthy, all with literally no effort. As a busy grad student, I have nowhere near enough time to worry about my hair and after using this product for over 2 months you'd never guess that.On top of having instantly wearable hair for the first time ever, I've started to realize how much my hairline had started to thin and recede. Even my eyebrows have finally started to thicken back up again. A little goes a long way and although it doesn't sud much, you can definitely feel its cleansing power as it quickly strips away that gunky oil feeling leaving the hair soft, light and clean. The smell is subtle and as someone who hates artificial fragrance scents, I really enjoy it. Thanks for making my hair effortlessly awesome Hugo and Deb! I highly recommend this stuff!

I am moving my family to all natural products slowly but surely. I was using another brand, but it didn't lather well at all (which I heard is common with sulfate free soaps) and it left my hair really greasy. After using Hugo naturals I was floored. I googled it trying to see if it was too good to be true and if there was a scandal behind it or something but I couldn't find anything. This shampoo does everything it says it does. It smells amazing, lathers wonderfully and is volumizing. I couldn't be happier that I found something safe to use that I'm so thrilled with.The conditioner is the same! Just completely wonderful detangler and smells amazing. I think it smells like coconut but that's not a complaint. It's so reasonably priced too, I swear this has to be a scam or something. I'll revise my post of I find anything more out about this product, but as of now it's really the bees knees and I will continue to buy this over and over.

Very happy to find a non-toxic shampoo that I feel is safe enough to double as a body wash. It has a nice fragrance, but not that strong. I had read reviews that it left hair very shiny but that's where it lost a star for me. Unfortunately, my hair didn't seem to have much shine at all. The best shampoo I ever used for shine was Burts Bees Super Shiny Beetroot and Grapefruit, but unfortunately they no longer make it. My hair was gorgeous when I used it and I received numerous compliments. Would love to find a nontoxic version that works as well.

I was really hoping to like this shampoo because it is hard to find a color safe shampoo with a low toxicity rating on the ewg.org website. Unfortunately it feels sticky and is very hard to disperse in my hair making it difficult to clean my scalp. I have since found Andalou Naturals Sunflower & Citrus Color Safe Shampoo. It disperses well and smells good, although I'm not sure how color safe it is as my roots have been much longer between colorings. I only leave on just enough to clean my hair then rinse immediately. That seems to help.

I absolutely love this shampoo (especially once I learned the trick to make it lather!). When I first purchased this shampoo, I liked it a lot, but I didn't like the fact that it didn't lather like other shampoos. That didn't stop me from purchasing it, was just a minor pet peeve of mine. I decided to teach myself how to swim this summer, and because I was in the pool 6 days a week, I asked my stylist if it was okay that I was shampooing my hair so much (I'm AA so generally only shampoo my hair 3x a week). He told me that I should dilute my shampoo. I initially thought this was crazy until he told me that most (if not all) shampoo is from concentrated and that it wouldn't make it less effective by diluting it. I decided to give this a try and to my utter surprise, I had a wonderful lather for the first time. I now dilute both my swimmers shampoo and this one and my hair looks and feels great!What I do is add about 4ounces of water to a tint measuring cup and drizzle about 5 drops into the water. I then tilt my head and pour the un-stirred solution onto my head while rubbing where I'm pouring. I get a beautiful lather when I do this. I tried doing it without the rubbing (at least not until the end) and it didn't lather up as much. I also tried stirring the shampoo into the water, and didn't get a lather at all when I did that.

I bought this specifically because it is SLS free. It's much different than regular shampoo so I need to get used to it. I do feel like I have to use MORE in order to get my hair clean with enough lather for my long hair. That is just a sacrifice of SLS free products, because SLS sole purpose is to create lather. It smells nice. It also leaves my hair very knotty so I have to make sure to condition well after shampooing. After drying my hair is soft, but I don't see any volume. In fact, my hair is flatter than using regular shampoo.
