Awesome Light, Lousy Adapter.
First and foremost, let's start with the good stuff. I bought this light because I was replacing an old fluorescent light fixture, and wanted an upgrade so that I could broaden the variety of live plants I'm able to keep. My tank is 75 gallons, and I was hoping LED would better penetrate the water depth to reach my plants. I'm very happy to report that the Zoo Med does just that--and as a bonus, gives the tank a far more realistic appearance than it ever had with fluorescent lighting. The movement at the water's surface interacts with the light and gives my tank a shimmer that I've previously only seen with metal halide bulbs. The 6000K daylight LEDs faithfully display everything's natural colors, and my wife gets a kick out of the blue "moonlight" feature. The unit is easy to adjust so that it exactly fits my tank's frame, and calls no attention to itself; indeed, the only thing it calls attention to is what's INSIDE my tank, which is just what I'd hoped for.I would have love to give this light five stars and a raving review.Except I can't. You see, I've only had this fixture for a week, and already I've had to replace the Zoo Med's power adapter. Either I've ridden that thing pretty hard over my seven days of ownership, or Zoo Med chose a cheap piece of junk to ship with this unit. Fortunately collecting and repairing electronics is a hobby of mine, and I happened to have a spare 9V 6A adapter which quickly put my light back in action. The unit comes with a 9V 4A adapter--and the reason why I mention this is because, based on one of the reviews here (LED lights don't have a ballast, so I'm assuming the adapter's what was actually replaced) as well as my own experience, I'm betting you're going to be running to a nearby electronics store to get a new one before long. Make sure it's exactly 9V and has at LEAST 4 amps (higher amps won't hurt anything since the light will only draw 4 of 'em). If you're reading this, Zoo Med, you might want to give some thought toward shipping these with better adapters. I understand now why it plugs into the fixture's cord: Makes them easy to replace. I'd call that mighty considerate of them... but you shouldn't have to worry about it to begin with. At least, not after only owning it for a week.UPDATE 5/19/2016: Three days after replacing the A/C adapter, two LEDs stopped working. Unacceptable. Item was returned.

Missing an important part!!!!
Just received this LED hood BUT NO WAY TO POWER IT???? How am I supposed to use it? I was shocked that no power adaptor came with this hood! Now how do I find the correct adaptor for this hood? I'm a tiny bit upset over this.

Very poor quality / poor return policy
I ordered this September 5, 2014 and came home today and it doesn't work. No lights whatsoever. Looked up the Amazon return policy and its only for 30 days. I've spent all this money for what, can't even return/ replace the thing. Very disappointed in the quality of this light

Good Light, Terrible Power Supply
First power supply failed within a few weeks. I will say, Zoomed customer support was great and they sent me a new one. The light worked fine with the new power supply (for 3 years) but apparently it has failed again. I'm away on military duty so I won't be able to address the issue until I get home. Thankfully I don't have any organisms that will be threatened by the lack of light but it is a bummer for sure. It's a nice clean design, such a shame they skimped on the AC adapter.

A bit of cleanup and some testing of the light found that the adapter has a bad 47uF, 400V electrolytic capacitor
It seems that what few reviews are here, the complaints are mostly about the switching power supply module (AC adapter). I have to add my "complaint" about it here also. Though I did not purchase this item from Amazon but from a local pet shop. After having problems with the GFCI outlet to my salt water aquarium tripping, I isolated the problem to the light fixture.A bit of cleanup and some testing of the light found that the adapter has a bad 47uF, 400V electrolytic capacitor. It has a bulging top and was hot, hot, hot!Though the adapter now has a slightly melted area in the cover, Replacing that bad capacitor with a new and better one will be relatively simple due to the use a large discrete components and not surface-mount. Except Radio Shack is out of business :( Time to become friends with the local TV repair guy.Electrolytic capacitors have a limited lifespan and do eventually fail.I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to repair your AC adapter unless you have electronics training and know what you are doing. And are willing to accept the consequences for a bad repair, up to and including burning your home down or getting electrocuted. That wouldn't be fun.
