The pics I received were not lignum vitae, 2 broke after little use . Lignum is a very dense wood, but these are very light, and lignum doesn't float in water, which I tested after they broke. I've had other lignum pics which are very tough, and lasted until they wore out, not breaking. For 21$ for four picks, you would think I would get the real thing.

Wonderful wooden guitar picks. Possibly the best available.
I really like these picks. I'm surprised at how hard they are! I think it would be tough to chip them, and I believe they will last for a while. They sound great and look nice. They lack grip, particularly with my consistently dry hands. This can be solved with some moisture (put the wide part of the pick in your mouth). Anyway, pleased. It's nice to have these as an option.

Great sounding pick that's easy to hold on to!
These are great picks! They're quite stiff, which works great for single string playing. They also work fine for playing rhythm. You just have to be used to a stiff pick and the way it reacts to the strings when strumming. They don't flex at all, so your grip is adjusted slightly, and all your rhythms work just fine. These picks are easy to hold on to, as they are thicker at the top, and the wood is not slick like the synthetic "tortoise" picks sometimes are. They have a slightly warmer sound than the Red Bear Heavy picks that I've used for several years. (As of this writing, the Red Bear costs $28 each and you have to wait for your order to be produced.) I needed some picks sooner, so I decided to try these Lignum Vitae. I've tried both picks side by side and these Timber Tones picks perform and sound as good, maybe even better. They sound slightly different, but I like them just as well. I can't say how many hours of playing it will take to wear a Lignum Vitae pick out, but all picks wear out eventually. These are readily available and they are not exorbitantly priced. I've seen legal tortoise picks advertised that cost as much as $90 per pick.
