Leafware Square Plates (25 Pack), 10", Natural

We were married at the Honolulu Aquarium this past summer and after seeing the rental prices for a simple place setting, we decided to investigate disposables. I hated the idea of using plastic and saw these Leafware plates at Whole Foods. They were much cheaper here online so I purchased enough for 80 guests, along with compostable birchware utensils and made it a whole eco-chic event. Everyone LOVED the way my tables looked and were shocked that these were compostable. I even had a couple friends that have compost piles at home and they took their plates with them! These looked so good, a lot of my guests didn't know they were "disposable" and were shocked when the plates went into the trash at the end of the night. For an event, these can't be beaten and are a very eco and budget friendly alternative. (I attached pictures so you can see just how classy these can be :)

We were looking for something that looked like a wooden plate, and this definitely fit the bill. They are cute and held up well to the food that was put on them (no leaking or anything). The only thing I didn't like was that when they are dropped, they break (which you don't usually expect with disposable plates). My kid knocked about four off the counter and one broke clear in half and one had an edge break off of it. We had extras, so were fine. But if we didn't I would have been out of luck...

My partner hates paper plates, and insists on using ceramic plates and linen napkins. But I got these plates that look almost like wood, use brown paper napkins, and mason jars for drinks to create a rustic look so he was impressed. It was great for my holiday party but I worried that they were sturdy enough to hold up hot food with sauces so I doubled them, not quite necessary, they held up okay so I waste a bunch. Even though they are expensive, I probably would buy them again so I don't have clean, and everyone seems to love the rustic look, and it is the trend!!

I have bought Leafware plates from Whole Foods in the past but our local WF does not carry them so I turned to Amazon. I like Leafware because I believe they are studier than even the best paper plates I can find and nicer than the plastic plates I have seen.The only problem I have with the larger plates is the inconsistency of their color.Some of the plates, about 30% have dark brown or black splotches on them. This is very unappetizing and upsetting for small children and sensitive adults.I ended up using the least attractive plates for serving platters with paper placed between the food and the plates. The plates I did use to set the table were well received and evoked a feeling of "being in the tropics" from guests who had just arrived from snowy New England.

I ordered the 10" plates, 7" plates, 6.5" bowls, and 5" plates for a dinner party where I knew that washing dishes would be a chore I did not want to do! I was pleasantly surprised at the durability of the products. They may not be as beautiful as plastic, but I threw them into compostable garbage bags and into the compost bin (our county collects compostable products). Will consider for use again for parties.

I've used these plates for my last two Christmas dinners -- they are sturdy and look absolutely beautiful with my natural, rustic holiday decor. I see other reviews about the size being small, but wonder if they were shipped the wrong product by mistake? Both times I ordered them I got 10" plates that were plenty big enough to hold a prime rib dinner with sides. Environmentally friendly and saves me from washing all those dishes! Already planning to buy them again next year.

Love these for my informal parties.The plates are super sturdy although very large and no one seemed to take them, they'd take the smaller ones that I bought instead..Also I get compliments on them every time. They do smell kinda leify but I don't mind. I feel good using them because I am not using plastic, and you can throw this in the compost pile or the recycling bin.

A couple of them came a little chipped, but that's why we got extra! They're gorgeous and seem like they shouldn't be used only once, but I don't feel as guilty about throwing them away after our party since they're not made from gross plastic.
