Early days, but so far so good
A little early to tell, as I've only had them a little while, but looking good so far. Bought 2 of these to replace a couple WD red 3TB drives for my main server, replaced fine in freenas 11. And the 2x 3TB drives went into my backup NAS. Haven't noticed any difference in operation at all, all going as well as ever, they may actually be a little quieter than the reds, but as I'm not that near the server most of the time wouldn't notice that much anyway, but they did sound quieter when the resilvering was taking place and I had the case open. Very good value, seeing as they were approx £20 cheaper than WD red 4TB drives at the time I bought these. Main reason I bought these over the reds though is that WD seem to be "foggy" over how much warranty these drives should have I have read in forums. These drives have the full warranty, I registered them soon as I got them, little tip, when you get ANY HDDs to save yourself problems down the road take pictures of the sticker so you have that info available for entering warranty details. I also use it for identifying drives if they fail, as the picture is named sda for example in freenas OS, then I know is is the first SATA connection drive... and I can locate that info on the seagate warranty page for requesting RMA for example. Hopefully it'll be a while before that happens as these drives are supposed to have a pretty good MTBF and amount of data writes per year.

Great drive as so much space
Great drive as so much space. I purchased from Amazon directly and it was inadequately packed to such an extent that I was fearful that it would be defective. I was correct - within 24 hrs of use many drive errors started and eventually my Synology NAS warned me of imminent failure. Multiple block errors and SMART errors. Anyway, returned for refund and will purchase another with the hope that it is packed correctly!

The noisiest drives I have ever heard and slow to wake up from idle!
Bought two of these to expand from a couple of 6Tb drives in my Synology NAS. Drives were well packaged, individually bubble wrapped. They were installed easily as per Synology instructions and fairly fast at expanding volumes. The biggest issue I have is the noise. When moving or copying large amounts of data it sounds like rocks are being crushed inside my NAS! Seriously, the WD 6Tb and 10Tb drives I had before were positively silent compared to these.I have to shut the door of my office so as not to disturb anyone when large file operations are happening at night.Second issue is the wake up time of the drives, it takes about a minute of clicking and buzzing for the drives to wake up from idle before I can access the NAS interface. I never had this issue with WD drives. The capacities are excellent however I cannot recommend these drives as a result of the noise and wake up issues. I would not buy them again.Dropped two stars for the unacceptable noise levels and poor wake up times.

Excellent drive but was noisy before I resolved the problem. Now quiet!
I bought this 6Tb IronWolf Pro NAS drive as backup server for my main servers. I’m using AOMEI backup software (also bought from Amazon) which has an excellent data compression option, so 6Tb is enough. The drive is fast and works perfectly in my spare NAS bay. It is online 24/7 for weekly scheduled incremental backups. This was my preferred choice because it uses CMR technology and is intended for the Enterprise environment. But like some other reviewers I found it very noisy. I could hear the loud hum from the drive two doors down the corridor from my office, and couldn’t tolerate it in the same room. The previous drive in this NAS bay was silent. But I found the answer. There was a tiny gap between the drive and the internal drive housing, and I could wiggle the drive slightly from side to side. So I inserted four tiny, very thin pieces of silicon rubber sheet into each side of the gap – and the noise stopped. I can now be alongside the NAS and remain more or less sane! Great news.

Great drives, shame about the clowns that package them
I’m expecting this review to be rejected as it’s not painting Amazon in a good light, but as there’s no way to complain I will continue to submit until I get a response, for as long as it takes!I’ve been using Ironwolf drives for some time now and they’re proving to be reliable, much better reliability than the old Barracuda drives from Seagate. My only issue is the clowns that package such a delicate piece of electronic hardware in a flimsy cardboard envelope. They’ll send out a pack of batteries in a two foot square box surrounded by air pillows, but risk damage to precision engineered mechanical hard drives in packaging that will happily fit through the letterbox only to go crashing to the floor doing all kinds of unseen damage (as the delivery driver has no indication as to how delicate the contents are...)No more hard drive orders from Amazon for me, the risk of damage is too great.
