Once a thriving manufacturing center, Lowell, MA provides a case study in the disturbing aftermath of industrial collapse. The Award-winning documentary that inspired the Oscar winning film, The Fighter, starring Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Mark Wahlberg, High on Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell follows three longtime Lowell residents who exemplify the city's decline. As Dicky Eklund, Brenda, and Boo-Boo move in and out of crack houses, rehab centers, and jail, their struggle for survival mirrors their hometown's fate. This documentary offers crucial insight into the reality of America's many Lowells-depressed urban zones where citizens are abandoned to drugs, and empty factories echo their despair.

scary!
I had seen this years ago on HBO, and it has lost none of its punch. Three desparate people leading desperate lives in desperate surroundings. I felt the sorriest for the woman in the group, talk about the ragged edge of nowhere!

hard to find
My boyfriend wanted me to watch The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg. He saw the movie after seeing the HBO special. Told me he couldn't find the HBO DVD anywhere. I bought it for him for Christmas. He was and still is ecstatic.

Worst documentary
This movie was awful and so not worth the money. Don't buy it! The movie the fighter really made it seem this documentary was about Dick Eckland and he was hardly in it.

Film can be graphic and act as a trigger for former addicts.
Excellent learning tool for college human services and criminal justice majors.
