Don't waste your money or time
This has been one of my most disappointing purchases. My son just needed something to put music on, so I didn't want to purchase something expensive. However, this only lasted about 3 weeks then the unit would not respond when any buttons were pushed. After many tries on Riptunes' website and emails, I finally called and got a live person on the phone - they told me to send the unit back and it would be fixed or replaced. This has been over a month and haven't heard from them since. This is one terrible purchase!!!Update: April 7th. I sent the original player back on February 6th. Today I received the replacement. I don't know how long it will last, but at least the company finally replaced the item.

does what it says
I really liked it. People say it doesn't work with iTunes but I have windows. I just plugged it to to the computer, opened my music folder on my computer and drug the songs over to the riptunes folder. Let it charge an hour and it was great! Simple MP3 player. Plays music good. The headphones are loud but kinda ehh quality but new headphones aren't expensive and makes the mp3 THAT much better. Don't care too much about the voice recording. Pushing the bottom button always enters record mode. Hated that. But it does what it's supposed to do. Love it! Highly recommend for cheapies like me.

Good sound, but there are problems.
The device is light and tiny. The sound is excellent. FM radio reception is pretty good. The problem is that it's a difficult player to navigate. The menu structure is awkward and hard to use. It takes 8 clicks of different buttons just to change the volume. Also, my Riptunes player stops playing if it is horizontal (that is, lying on its back). It worked fine as long as I kept it vertical in my shirt pocket. But it just stops playing when it's horizontal. I wish I had spent a little more and gotten a player with a separate volume control button, and a simpler menu structure. I wouldn't buy this model again.

some features don't work for me
It will not shuffle, customer support was OK, but the instructions they gave me didn't work because the options were not there.I can't get it to raise or lower the volume without going to another menu while it is playing. If it did these 2 things, I would rate it 1 or 2 stars higher

You Get What You Pay For....
Read the manual: charge it for at least 8 hours before first use. Seems to hold a decent charge. It will remember playback position when turned back on, which is great for podcasts and audiobooks but in order to do so, you need to press the power button for an extra second or two when turning it off. The volume control is awkward. Instead of individual volume buttons, you have to pull up a menu to adjust the sound. Mine has the unfortunate habit of switching off when I'm navigating menus/tracks or it's jiggling around in my pocket. The sound quality of the earphones are okay. Nothing special. Transferring files is easy. FM tuner has decent reception. This player is fine if you need an mp3 player in a pinch for a long trip or something. Doesn't seem sturdy enough to hold up as a gift for kids under 12.

Great for price
I bought this for my 2 year old. Her cd player died and the cd also had quit.So I bought this and downloaded all her favorite music to it so it was easier. Different controls from many other mp3 but it does the job and seems to be holding up pretty well even with her getting ahold of it from time to time.

Not Kid Or Adult Friendly
It will definitely hold whatever you like but getting to it is another matter. I had a time figuring out the volume settings, figuring out how to get to the music once it was loaded, etc. You can definitely find a better one for a few bucks more.

Just OK
It has very good sound and is a good basic MP3 player. The menu is not very easy to use and took a while to figure out. If you want to change the volume, you have to go to a menu to do it, instead of having easy buttons while the music is playing. It will do the job, but I wouldn't buy it again.
