Finally! Some sonic balance!!
I've been searching for a reasonably priced set of in-ear-headphones that can deliver clean, clear, fully-balanced sound across the audio spectrum, without washing-out, or over-emphasizing any other area of that spectrum. I have finally found it.After trying the J3's, I liked most everything about them, but I found their over-emphasized highs just a bit shrill for my taste. In attempt to compensate for the overpowering highs of the J3's, I then moved on to the J-Lab J.FI buds with the ebony/aluminum enclosures (supposedly for "richer, warmer sound") and found that the bass in the J.FI's was way more than I expected or wanted and melodic bass notes tended to be sort of muddy and bland, without much presence and would bleed into the mids, and kind of wash them back a bit. Low-end punch, for my money, was a bit weak in the J.FI's as well. Then I found the J4's. For me, the J-Lab J4's do everything I have been looking for, right out of the box. I imagine that they will sound even better after a few hours of play loostens up the speaker elements. The bass knows its place in the J4's! The melodic bass notes are smooth & clear and don't bleed into, or cover up, any other sonic territory, and the lower-end bass notes are still satisfyingly punchy, without being overpowering. The mids are quite clean and present. They're right up front where they should be and maintain a very pleasant, comfortable balance with the lows and the highs. The J4's highs are crisp and focused without any of the shrillness I found in the the J3's. They're nicely in balance with the the rest of the spectrum as well - not too far forward, not too far back. I can not only hear the sound of the symbol, I can now hear the wood of the drum stick striking the brass of that symbol.I listen to a widely varied range of music - from Ellington to Zappa - and it all sounds awesome on the J4's. All in all, I am sure that between the excellently balanced characteristics of the J4 in-ear-headphones, and a couple of slight tweaks to your player's EQ, you too will be able to find your sweet spot with these phones. For the price, these things are a steal!

JLAB J4 vs Sennheisser Sennheiser CX380 Sport Series II
Six months ago I purchased a set of Sennheiser CX380 Sport Series II Noise Isolating Earbudsand found them to be a bit more comfortable in the ear than the J4. The J4 fit very well with a nice range of ear piece sizes to try.The sound quality of the J4 is better in my opinion than the CX380's. I am partial to a cleaner sound, more crisp high notes and a little less on the bass. The Sennheiser units had a great bass sound, but it sounded a bit held back on the treble notes. The Sennheiser CX380's broke after six months of use. Very dissappointed in the construction quality. The J4's appear to be built like tanks. I was a little concerned about the size of the ear piece and weight. I was pleased to find that neither of these concerns have become issues. So far, I am extremely impressed with the detail of sound that I am getting from my J4's before they have even been burned in. Very crisp with a light balance of bass. I can distinctly here sounds I could not hear in the Sennheiser CX380's.My vote: J4's win

Nice buds!
I agonized a few days over my new selection - so many options. Sound quality is so subjective. I mostly ignore that aspect in reviews, but I will say that "I" like the quality and find it superior to any of the dozen or so sub $40 buds I've used (and lost). I was surprised and pleased with the quality of the low-end part of the spectrum. The other element I was after was "tangle-resistance". These are so resistant, they may be made of a yet-undisclosed state of matter, solid, but... ;)They also are very comfortable with a good isolation seal of the ear canal. The dark red color of the the cable and the nice little case may help me hang on to these for more than a year! The only niggle I can cite is the "rasp" of sound conduction via the cables as it moves on your clothing. However, I consider this to be minor and is expected with tangle-resistance. All in all, a good value.

The bass dropped....literally.
I bought these earbuds as part of an amazon promotional deal. while these earbuds are built with great quality and care, the title in itself is rather deceiving. I bought these earbuds due to the name, "Heavy bass", as I like my music to have some thump to it, unfortunately, it is not very bass-y as I hoped, in comparison to Wicked Audio WI2103 JAW BREAKER EARBUDs, which I used a lot until they broke. I bought these in hope of being around the same quality of audio, but with better durability, but alas, while they were of upmost quality, the audio was not what I was hoping for.while it's not to say that they are bad, they're great quality, it's simply the title was rather deceiving in what I was hoping for.

great price, very durable!
love love love my J4s. First bought it 5 years ago for myself, and my sister loved it so much that i gave it to her and bought another same one, which lasted me 5 years. Have to say that I dont treat my earphones well, i never carry it in a case, never wind it up, and usually just tug and pull it straight from my bag. and the pairs I previously had withstood 5 years of 'mistreatment'! the the J4s come with a box for you to keep your earbuds, and also additional rubber earpiece attachments which allows you to (hopefully) find one that fits your ear.Unfortunately, none of the rubber attachments they provided fit my ear, so that's a bummer. Luckily I had a pair from my olddddd earbuds that I can just use.Definitely buy it!

Amazing quality, a bit heavy.
These in-ear headphones give great sound quality for a fantastic price. At first use, you may notice that they're pretty heavy and fall out of your ear unless you jam them far in there -- which is not a good idea. They come with interchangeable pieces to give you the best experience and comfort, however. If you are hesitating on making this purchase, don't.Mine were recently stolen from me and I will most likely not buy another pair. In the short amount of time I had them, I can say they're the best for the price. You definitely get a better product then what you are paying for.

Decent headphones
these took awhile to get used to because of the inner ear part to them but the sound is AMAZING and (knock on wood) i have not had a problem with them yet. Came in a awesome little case with a bunch of different rubber pieces to fit in anyone's ear. Defiantly recommend to anyone looking for a new set of headphones or looking to try something new.

Excellent, especially for $22
I just received these yesterday. I love them so far. Great bass and sound quality. They are loud compared to other head phones in a similar price range. I also love having the little carrying case for them because I'm hoping it will help keep them from getting damaged.

Poor quality earbuds
They may be "rugged" but not only do the cables wear quickly at the connections, the sound is tinny and has poor bass. Just to set the bar, I am no audiophile. I have some 7 year old $30 walmart ear buds and I noticed a huge difference between the two. Don't waste your money on these earbuds.

Meh at this point not worth it
Best ear phones ever. But they break really easy. First pair the earphones came out. New pair R ear phone doesn't work. JLab Customer Support sucks. They take long to send you the replacement and are not very nice about it.

Great
I really enjoy these earbuds as you receive several different ear inserts. The rugged metal is excellent as these earbuds come with me everywhere. Also love the colour
