BC Hats Bac Pac Traveller Oily Australian Leather

I love the way this hat looks and feels. I'm 46 and this is the first hat I ever bought. My increasingly exposed pate requires protection from the Colorado solar rays. I found that seeing hats on actual people helped me immensely in making my buying decision. So, take a peek at the hat pics and try to ignore my ugly mug. I was worried that the hat would be too tall for my liking, but it isn't. My head (size XL) fits in it perfectly. A shorter hat may have looked weird on me. So, kudos to the wife for the good advice.The hat is made from what I consider to be finely finished, beautiful leather. It is very sturdy and should hold up well to the elements. One of the selling points for me was that the braid is not glued on in a cheap manner. As one can see, it is buckled on and is of the same quality as the hat.I find it hard to believe that anyone would want to crush this hat. What is the point of that? I love the shape and I hope it tends to hold it. I won't be crushing it anytime soon.I hope my review and the pics help give you comfort if you want to buy this hat. Buy with confidence.

What I like about this hat:I take a size small, and this fit me just right. I don't like really wide brims, or really a tall crown. This hat isn't too high, and the brim isn't too wide. I've tried a lot of hats at local stores and none of them look right on me; but this one looks just right.What I don't like about this hat:I bought this to replace a leather hat that got stolen - I bought that one at a saddle shop back in 2002. The cut of that hat was the same as this one; but the leather in my old hat was three times as thick as this hat by BC Hats. I'm a bit disappointed with the leather thickness. It FEELS like the company bought thin leather to cut costs, and cut some quality in the process. I can't imagine they built their reputation in the beginning with paper thin leather hats.Overall, because I like the fit and shape, I'm giving it 4 stars. But due to paper thin leather I can't give it 5.

This is the second one I've got - I have the same exact hat in brown, and have worn it just about every day for 3 years. I get SO many random compliments. People literally roll down their car windows to yell out, "nice hat!" It's surprisingly warm in the winter, and cool in summer. My favorite hat(s) by far.2 WEEK UPDATE: First random-stranger "Nice hat!" compliment received tonight for the new black hat. Also updating review with stupid-selfies from a surprisingly wide variety of places I've worn this hat in both colors.

Gorgeous hate. I love love love it. My only issue is it is ever so slightly smaller than I would like, which makes it sit slightly higher on my head unless I pull it down. My head measured slightly under 22" in diameter so I figured that medium would be fine per the sizing chart, but I should have gone for the large, it seems. Perhaps it is supposed to be a hat that fits so that it sits higher on your head, though? Anyhow, either way, great hat for the money! I figure I will just stretch it out a bit by wearing it :-) Thanks for the AWESOME hat!

BC makes great hats in Australia and not China, wonderful! They fit great, and I look great wearing them. The stitching and cut is always spot on. I have a half dozen BC hats of different styles and all are worn out from great wear with months and months of daily use. The leather was soft and holds it's shape and color. Unlike their suede breeze hat that runs very large when ordering by size, this one size wise, matches what you expect.

So, this hat was a replacement for a cheap leather/composite hat I’d been wearing for years. I’m generally cautious about buying hats online because there’s a lot you can’t tell from a photo. In this case, it worked out well. Measured my melon with a tailor tape and bought according to the chart. What I got was not quite what I expected but I love it. I am entirely bald and I often have a red stripe around my head from hats that fit firmly. While this hat won’t blow away, the way that it fits doesn’t cause that. Six hours on the trail and you would never guess I just took off a hat (unless it’s hot out - see below). It’s also very warm. Not for 80 degree days but I’m excited for Autumn. They’re not kidding about the crushable bit. No need to be precious with this thing; it pops right back. Only compliant is that it’s pretty impermeable. Sweat collected on top of my head while hiking and when I took off the hat... well, it was a little gross. If you have hair, probably not an issue. I recommend this hat.

Item arrived well protected in a box that fit the shape of the hat. Shipping was fast. I bought this for my grandpa who loves hats similar in style and has always wanted to visit Australia but sadly never had the chance. I contacted the seller to make sure it was made there first, and they responded quickly that it had been. The quality is excellent. It may be a bit pricey but worth every cent. I am very happy with the purchase.

This is a soft-crown, crushable hat; but I wanted a solid-crown, firmer Australian walkabout hat and so I returned it and ordered a Henshel hat which is more solid and holds it's crown shape. None of the walk-abouts on sale today match in firmness my lost 25-year-old one which disappeared - it must have been made of bear or buffalo hide.

The sizing system for this heart was not accurate the hat is too big. It did not come as advertised. There was no replaceable Snap-on band it is not entirely steer leather at all. Appears to be well made. But not as comfortable as a all leather hat would be. However I do rather like the look of the Worn brown leather appearance.
