A great buck knife, prime for personalization.
Beautiful buck knife, but the bulky oak scales are ICKY and GROSS. Way too wide, they lasted 5 mins on there before I took them off with the full intention to make new ones out of something else if I wasn't going to sand/stain/dye the oak ones. As far as buck knives go the rest is high quality with a great blade material, fit, and finish. Even without the scales that are 1/5 or .198 inches thick each, it's still a big hefty knife in the hand with the large speedhole looking frame on top of a liner with lock. I kind of wish this knife had a flipper on it, but the key reasons I purchased it was for the blade material, a liner lock with thumb stud, and it's a BUCK. I have other back lock Buck knives, but sort of shy away from lockbacks myself for EDC (EveryDayCarry), unless I'm putting a sheath on my belt that day before I head to town.

Buck knife.
Like the knife for what it is, a hunting knife. The only thing is the sheath although vary nice looking is to small for the knife. Knife does not fit properly. Has to be forced. A lot. The seller has bin great, good , fast service. No problems with them at all.

Knowing Buck.
Knowing Buck this will be gone soon and people will be stuck with rubber handles and cheap 420hc steel. I made ironwood handles for it. The blade was loose. Oiled and tightened the pivot. Two of the press fits holding the handle together were cut crooked and I had to file them to get the scale flush. The scales feel cheap. There is a web site that sells scales for the alpha hunter in zebra, ironwood, purpleheart ect. No idea what the 009 etched into the blade is. I'll beat the poo out of it this summer and see. I expect it to perform admirably. Put my old rosewood handles on it that I treated with Envirotex Lite. Going to have to make scales for it from black walnut. Sanded the scales a little and cracks appeared.

I would recommend to anyone as a light to heavy duty knife that is easy to maintain.
Good steel, very durable, easy one handed operation. Handsome knife and comfortable in your hand. Great sheath which allows scout carry and easy access to the knife. I use one like this model as my EDC.

Solid Knife
Custom touch to an already respected knife. The Alpha is already a durable beast, but add upgraded steel, cool wooden scales, and fine leather sheath...perfect gift

A little less polished than earlier versions
I have this knife in versions from 2002-2003. This new oak version (2019) is significantly less polished on both the metal parts and the wood scales. A very nice S30V blade in a package that just doesn't feel like the quality of the older ones.

buck family
I've been a member of their "buck family" for 40+ years, and finally decided to send my "kalinga pro" in for some t.l.c. and to get worked on. Didn't want to be away from one of my favorite tools so I ordered this one to take it's place for a couple months. The quality is what I am used to from the Buck company and would be surprised if it was found to be lacking in any way. Would recommend to anyone!
