Kind of a silly concept
The "power" part of this is very silly. All it does is vibrate while you brush, which upsets MOST animals just like hair clippers do. I tried it and gave up, just taking the batteries out and using it like a normal furminator style comb. I like that it's small, so it's perfect for my 25lb dog and two cats. But you're definitely paying more for a feature that doesn't really do anything.

Will eventually turn low shed dogs like maltese and yorkie bald.
We were concerned about our 16 week old Morkie shedding. We were seeing more hair on our clothes after playing with him as it became warmer. My son and daughter were also starting to cough like crazy and we were worried it was due to pet hair (when an air purifier didn't stop the coughing). (The dog was also starting to cough and hack - he licks himself a lot.)The furminator was just waaaay out of budget. The reviews on this looked good, so I went ahead and purchased it.First, install the batteries and turn the massager on when brushing the dog. It keeps the dog calmer and seems to prevent the machine from pulling as much hair out. I tried it first without batteries and he really didn't like it AT ALL. He was willing to lie back and was more calm with the massager on.My Morkie usually looks like a ball of fluff after being groomed. After using this brush, there was definitely less hair on him. The adorable poof was gone :-( (that was yesterday). He went to the vet today, so I decided to use the deshedder on him again when he came back because dogs tend to shed more when they go to the vet. I think I got more hair out today than I did yesterday and I fear it might be pulling his hair out more than removing loose hair. I say this because he's usually very passive about being groomed, but he's tried to bite this brush when it gets stuck in his hair and then pulls.I'm using very light strokes. I'm making sure not to press down, but I have no idea how a low to no shed dog can have THIS MUCH loose hair in a 24 hour period! I wish the instructions said how often it could be used.On the plus side, my children are no longer coughing and neither is the dog, but I'm still keeping an eye on all of them. The dog was starting to look like he needed a haircut, but now he looks neat again.I think I might only use this once or twice a week or when I start seeing hair on my clothes. I really don't want a bald morkie.21 March 2012Finally received an email back from the company regarding my concerns about the deshedder possibly leaving me with a bald dog. This is NOT intended for low shed dogs, so if you have one, please DO NOT BUY! It WILL make your dog bald. I have since retired the deshedder and given my pup an ultra short haircut.

Works Incredibly Well. Great for Cats (& fine coats)!
Normally when someone asks me what kinds of things I like, gadgets is usually my first answer (well, maybe motorcycles but that's clearly irrelevant to this review...lol). The only exception to my affinity for gadgets is gadgets made for PETS. I cannot even begin to recall how many things... gadgets I've purchased for pets in my lifetime. Nearly all of them had one single thing in common, they are junk and break after only a few uses. However, with that being said, Andis has restored my faith in pet gadgets.I purchased this small De-Shedder as well as the large size. These De-Shedders+ are really great. I am so impressed with the thought that went into the design. One of the most important things when it comes to gadgets used on cats is NOISE! Wait, there's one thing more important than that. The item has to actually work without falling apart. Anyway, these are very, very quiet. Even my more skittish (previously feral) cats aren't scared of it. Plus the oscillation is very smooth which is a major bonus. I was skeptical that an oscillating rake could make much difference over a standard non-electronic one but I was was wrong. It really does make a difference. It helps tremendously.I have a cat with an extremely long, thin, and silky smooth coat. Nothing worked to grab all the hair from her that I know is there because she proves it in a most unfortunate way. Ugh! Even "slicker" type brushes can't do the job. But, this device works extraordinarily well on her.Pros (in no particular order): quality, price, effective, quiet, smooth action, cordlessCons: I can't think of a single oneOther comments I have about this are: This small size is perfect for cats. It glides gently over heads, right between the ears. At times I do wish I'd purchased the medium size to use on the rest of the cats' body because the large is best for dogs. The one exception to that however is I can use the large size on my ginormous 30lb Russian Blue. He's not fat, he's just huge! I will say that these De-Shdders+ seem to be best for fine hair. For instance I can't really use this on my Australian Shepherd with her thick coarse coat. I have to use a much more widely spaced rake on her that curves at the tip to help get rid of her undercoat each summer.
