Worth the money - A bit fragile
I bought both this and the UA600ex. This one worked well but was a bit fragile. When adjusting the antenna from flat to 90 degrees (straight up) the little black tabs on the antenna that allow it to pivot broke off. This was a real bummer, but since I won't be moving it much now that it is set up, it will not impact performance. The device worked very well - I'm able to stream video from one house to another - about 500 feet apart.Although a bit fragile, it works great!

Works great, but software is very temperamental
It works great, when it decides to work. In fact, I'm using it now as I write this review from Mexico. But the software has trouble establishing the connections with the various networks, even though all the WEP passwords and signals are present. Then all of a sudden, it decides to work. I've tried to figure out what I'm doing right or wrong, or it's doing, and I can't figure it out yet. I'm not computer illiterate, but I don't get it. But when you do get it to work, it does substantially boost the signal. Running it on Windows XP.

Wireless Speed Solution that Really Rocks
Verizon FIOS subscribers are tethered to their default Actiontec Wireless G router unless you are willing to attempt the cumbersome work-around of bypassing the wireless transmitter and installing your own Wireless N device. Short of that, the limits in the router can mean spotty household coverage and wireless upload/download speeds that lag far below what you pay for. After trying multiple solutions -- including several other Amped products -- that for a variety of reasons did not deliver the baseline wireless service I was looking for, I purchased the Amped UA600 Wireless 300N 600mW USB adapter. I can report that -- at least for me -- this adapter works like a charm. Since installing the Amped UA 600, I am seeing wireless upload and download speeds on the order of 24.5 Mbps and 21 Mbps. This is quite literally twice the sampled national household average on a popular speed test, and consistently 2-3 times the typical speed that Verizon had previously delivered in my household. This product absolutely works as advertised.Installation is simple and essentially idiot-proof. Load the included software, reboot your computer, then install the UA600 (after first mounting the included antenna). A quick caution here -- in order to take full advantage of the UA600 you must have two (2) free USB 2 ports. The unit will run on one single connection (the primary male connection is clearly labeled), but I cannot attest to the speed improvements from using only a single port as I am using both connectors. Once you have connected the adapter, simply scan for your household wireless connection, input the requisite security code and you're done. The signal reception is powerful, consistently recording 5 full bars, and there have been no drop outs, slowdowns, or reduced signal reception during usage, even at what are presumably peak household and area usage times. Moreover, when scanning for my network, I am seeing many more other local households than I have ever noticed before. This of course may mean that your neighbors can see your network, so an effective security code and firewall are absolute necessities, which I assume is not a problem for you.If you are struggling with less than optimum wireless household coverage, the Amped UA600 should be high on your list of possible solutions. At roughly $59 it is not cheap, but is quite fairly priced given the outstanding results -- a small investment to finally get the coverage and speed you are paying for if you happen to use Verizon FIOS and its less-than-stellar Actiontec Wireless G router.Pros: Solid, reliable 5-bar wireless coverage. Outstanding improvement in tested upload and download speeds. Product appears to be solidly made. Foolproof and simple installation.Cons: NoneCaution: In order to fully take advantage of the product's capabilities, you must have 2 free USB ports.

Works great on all my PCs including Windows 8.1
I had purchased two of these on separate occasions. The first one was for an older PC that is about 35ft to 40ft away from my router. After installing the drivers first, I plugged it into a USB 2 and it started working right away. I get very good signal and connect to the internet fairly quickly. On my more recent purchase I got it for a new All In One PC that is running Windows 8.1. I did the same thing as with my first purchase and installed drivers first but when I connected it for some reason it would not stay connected. It kept making this sound and the wireless icon would show it connecting then disconnecting back and fourth very quickly. I called there customer support and they told me that they didn't think it would work with Windows 8.1. I was disappointed since the other adapter had worked so well on the other PC. I was about to return it but I decided to try it on a laptop that I have that is running Windows 8.1. It connected right away and worked great. This told me that it should work with Windows 8.1. I kept trying to think what could be keeping it from working on my All In One. I then decided I would try a different cable to see if that would make a difference. Well I was surprised when it connected and started working as it should with the different cable. So my conclusion to all of this is that it will work just fine on Windows 8.1 but if it doesn't work with the provided cable, you might need to switch it out with a different cable. I don't know if the support team from Amped Wireless has realized this but this is something they might want to look into and maybe change out the cables they provide with there units. I'm very happy with my purchase. Now I would like to see this same unit but with a USB 3.0 connection.

USELESS FOR MAC OWNERS, EXCEPT AS A DOORSTOP.
From Amped Customer Support Forum: "We do not have a driver that supports higher than OSX 10.9 at this time. We do not have an ETA for the next OSX drivers release." This was posted by them at the beginning of 2013. Almost three years later, nothing has changed. It was incredibly annoying to use this product for 3 months, then learn that it was no longer being updated, and was therefore a doorstop.OSX Compatibility:OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) YESOSX 10.10 (Yosemite) NOOSX 10.11 (El Capitan) NO
