Great Receiver with some issues, that have now been fixed.
I ordered a "recertified" Denon AVR-S900W Receiver. It arrived missing a few items: the microphone stand, cable labels, batteries and "notes on radio." A call to Amazon offered me the options of sending me another receiver or adjusting the price. I opted for the price adjustment, as opening and returning another big, heavy box was not something I wanted to face. The setup instructions on the TV screen were very helpful and easy. My system has 9 components in it, and the guided setup took about half the time other receivers have required. I decided to hook up all 8 speakers, and the "Audyssey" microphone and setup were easy to use. Everything sounds terrific. So far I have discovered only two issues. The firmware update hasn't worked, and Sirius XM radio constantly disconnects. A call to Denon informed me that the firmware server is currently down. And the Denon tech guy gave me 5 ports to open on my router to correct the problem with Sirius. The ports were easy enough to do on my Apple Time Capsule, but the problems with Sirius are not resolved. After a few minutes, it simply disconnects. I never have this problem with Sirius on my Roku Player, iPhone or iPad. One of the featured that made this Receiver so attractive was having Sirius built in, so I didn't need to use Roku or Apple TV and an iPhone or iPad and the TV monitor to listen. I hope Denon comes up with a fix for this issue. Otherwise it shouldn't advertise Sirius as a feature. For that reason I am giving 4 stars rather than 5. If a firmware update fixes this issue, I will amend my review.UPDATE: 13 May 2015: I have lowered my star rating to 2 because of the continuing issues with SiriusXM. I have gotten lots of promises from Sirius and Denon tech support, but they haven't fixed anything. The Denon will play Sirius for anywhere between 2 seconds and 30 minutes, and then it just disconnects. If you want a receiver that will work with SiriusXM, then I recommend you look elsewhere. I am very disappointed that Amazon, Denon and Sirius all still maintain that this unit provides a feature, when that feature doesn't work.UPDATE: 26 JULY 2015: Denon recently updated the firmware on this receiver, and now SiriusXM is much more reliable. Since that was my only complaint about the great product, I have raised my star rating to 5.

Watch Out!
The Denon is good and puts out good sound and video (most of the time). Setup was easy. The problems I'm having is there a random green flicter that we get. My PS3 wont work through it and my Roku 3 only works if I plug it into the front AUX port. I spent $320 extra to have an AV guy come out and set it up and he couldn't figure it out beyond saying its a problem with the Denon. All of the components work great when connected directly to the TV, but not when connected through the Denon. I'm going to spend another day trying to fix it, but if not it's going back. I had a pioneer prior to this and never had issues like this...

This receiver has great sound and very easy setup BUT...
So... I am not generally a reviewer, but need I felt the need to share my experience for Amazon buyers and potential Denon customers. This receiver has great sound and very easy setup. The GUI is very clean, and the video features are well thought-out. It does a great job with the up-conversion from composite video sources to HDMI, which is one of the main reasons I picked this model in the price range. I cannot speak to longevity yet, because I have only had it for a short period of time. It would be a 5-star review except...There is a critical piece of information that I could not find anywhere in the product description, included CD-ROM manual, or Internet Manual. THIS RECEIVER MUST HAVE A HARD-WIRED ETHERNET CONNECTION IN ORDER TO PERFORM FIRMWARE UPDATES. Moreover, if an update misses even one packet of information, the receiver locks up and requires a "Network Reset," which is also not listed in any of the documentation. It is literally dead in the water and will not even pass-thru an HDMI signal. Since Denon's telephone customer support is not 24/7, this lead to an extremely frustrating weekend AND an (probably) unnecessary exchange with Amazon.Denon's "troubleshooting" section in the manuals is useless. It tells you what an error means, but not how to fix it. Their support personnel were nice enough, but a functionality issue that literally disables the product should not be guarded like a secret handshake; and if they are not going to be available by phone at night or on weekends they darn sure ought to make the online info crystal clear. In my case, I needed to borrow a 100' network cable from work and string it through my house to do the firmware update. I have disabled prompts for future updates, and will probably just check manually every six months or so and borrow the long ethernet cable when I want to do an update. Had the product literature told me that firmware updates require wired LAN, I may not have purchased the unit.Amazon, as usual, gets 5++++ stars--they instantly sent a brand new unit with prepaid labels and instructions to return the old one. But all of this could have been prevented with one simple line of text in Denon's literature. I will let them know my experience as well, and perhaps they can improve the firmware update process, or at least their literature, for future models.
