Barron's SAT Subject Test Biology E/M

I did a lot of research on College Confidential and other places and most students said they preferred this prep book for the SAT Subject Test in Biology. My daughter thought this book was very good and would recommend. So she got a 4 on her AP Biology Molecular exam this past May (2017). The weeks before the exam, she kept on getting a 4 on the practice exams, with being 1 question away from earning a 5. Unfortunately she wasn't able to overcome the hurdle to getting the 5. Using this book plus the Official SAT practice exams, she was able to score a 740 on the June 3rd 2017 SAT Subject test exam. Note that the Barron's books tend to be very detailed and take time to get through, so I would recommend getting them a couple of months before you plan to take the AP and/or SAT Subject Test exams.

I used this after 9th grade, and if it weren't for this book I would have failed the test. My 9th grade biology teacher was terrible, I learned nothing in her class, and on the diagnostic test I got a 430. I spent 13 straight days using this book for 3-4 hours a day, and when I took my last practice test I got a 770. On the actual test, every time a hard question came up, I thought back to that part of the book, and it never disappointed me. I got an 800. This book is your bible. If you can, memorize it.I just bought the Barron's books for U.S. History, Chemistry, and Literature, and I'm planning to use them for my AP tests as well.

I had to take a biology subject test mid year for one of the colleges I was applying to, so I got this prep book to learn the second half of the material. After studying from this book for about a month ahead of my January SAT, I managed to get a 730 on the Bio M exam. The material on the exam matched what was in this prep book very closely. My only complaint is that it did not describe the difference in how colleges perceive the Ecology vs Molecular exam scores as the curves are a bit different. Nevertheless, this prep book worked out well for me.

I took this June 2017 as a sophomore in HS. I was definitely expecting a 720 on both biology and math because of how much material I had to study. I did a few sections of the book each day for 25-ish days. When I got to the practice tests, I tended to score in the 600s for biology. When I got to the actual test I scored a 770, so basically, this book is a lot harder in the practice tests than the real thing, so it prepares you well. Same with the Math II book.

It is a good prep book... I already took one year of IB Biology and needed this to supplement my knowledge. I casually read through the chapters I didn't know and answered questions. I didn't heavily prepare for the subject test, but this book prepared me well. It is just like the subject test, because when I took the real test I felt like I was using the Barron's book again! I scored a 700 after, which was good for my first try.

I sat for the test recently after reading and memorising the entire book. I would say this book did not prepare me well for the test. If you are aiming for 750 - 800, don't buy this book. However, it would be a great book if you want to strengthen your foundation in biology.

Barron's review books never fail to meet the standards of delivery, organization, and amount of content. This particular book is no different. I have a Kaplan's SAT Subject Test Biology book at home, and it does not compare to this product in terms of quality and quantity. The key to SAT Subject tests are solving many many questions and many books do not have enough questions to practice. However, this book has a good amount of practice questions.

Barron's never disappoint and have prepared my son well for his SAT tests. I have used 4 different tutors and all have recommended Barron's.
