Q: Does anyone have experience with the "Bear" version of this knife?

Yes, it is the same knife just scaled down in size a bit, it also uses smaller thickness steel than the papa bear, but is no less durable. The papa is a big dog work horse, the bear is just as good but lighter. Both are good choices.

Q: does the sheath come with any tools... such as a flint ,or sharpening stone?

No it does not come with any sharpeners or fire starters. Which i actually prefer. Do not like stuff hanging off my sheaths,tends to get caught up in brush and branches.

Q: What is the blade coating?

Depends on option. Its either tufcoat powdercoat or gunkote. I have grey powder coat. Its held up well
