Good for Anything, Except Upgrading
I got the cheaper model with the A8 in it and I can 100% say that I am truly impressed by this system. I am able to play not only LoL at max settings highest res but also CS:GO that was an unexpected treat. Both at above 60FPS. For the price of 560$ you can not beat this PC.I will edit this review if changes occur though.Update: Have had a few minor issues with the sound card. It completely stopped working the other day after a supposed Windows Update so I had to system restore to a previous date to get it back working again. I Have also put in a Rosewill 500W Glacier Power Supply after buying a 24 to 14 pin adapter off of ebay. I plan to upgrade the CPU and GPU in the future. As of now this PC is still treating me like a beast if anyone is wondering what the GPU looks like in this pc (a8 model) I will include a picture.Update 2: Now with the improved power supply I have put in an Club 3D R9 270 it was a tight fit as this case is extremely small but with some cord management I managed to get it in there. Runs very quiet and much more quiet than the card it came with (R9 255).I will include a screen shot of the GPU I put in.Update 3: The thing is starting to turn on me. After a bios update the system is bricked and yes I know what im doing this happened to not only me I've checked the Lenovo forums and was shocked to how many people had this issue. So DO NOT update bios at all. Lenovo provides no back up disc when you purchase this PC. Also just something to let you know make sure your PC comes with the AMD codes and the 8gb ssd mine did not come with either of those and only noticed recently. I think im going to have to put in a new motherboard (i planned on doing that overtime anyway but not this soon) So I say be cautious with this PC it starts out looking nice but it gets ugly. Lenovo thought it was a good idea to make a a GAMING PC of all things almost non up-gradable knowing that people who buy these are going to do that. If you remove parts you void warranty so be careful. My final verdict is if you have 0 plans on upgrading EVER this is a good PC but, if you are looking for a starting point like I was this is NOT for you at all.My score is now 3/5 instead of a solid 5/5Also Lenovo's customer support is dreadful keep that in mind also. So if you do not know what you are doing they are most likely not going to know either.Do not plan to play any modern games on this with decent settings It will not happen with the stock components.
A**.
Excellent system at a great price, but beware if you plan on dual booting Linux.
Let me start this off by saying that the Lenovo X315 is an excellent system for a great price especially if, like me, you aren't interested in piecing a system together yourself.Performance is outstanding. I basically bought this computer (sadly) to play Skyrim on ridiculous settings. It is doing that flawlessly with no frame rate issues whatsoever, on all max settings at 1080p resolution. Now I know that's not the most graphics intensive game, but it's the only thing I have to demonstrate. Performance, great, no complaints. The only complaints I do have, are relatively small and more tedious than anything, if i could have I would have given 4.5 stars. There is an extra hard drive bay so you can install a secondary/back-up drive. I went and bought one at Best Buy for this reason, my plan is too install Linux on it without partitioning a single drive. Here come my two complaints. First, while there was a power source inside the tower for the second hard drive, there was not another SATA cable so I had to disconnect my disc drive until I install another. No big deal, I shouldn't have assumed there would be, though it would have been nice if there was.The second, larger complaint came when trying to dual boot Linux. I planned on doing this by booting from a USB drive to install to the second hard drive. Basically, this simply does not work. From my research, it appears that this is harder to do on Windows 8 than previously on Windows 7, but for some reason, Lenovo makes this even harder on their Windows 8.1 systems through their software. It appears that in order to get it to work, i will have to do a clean install of Windows 8 (a pain because I hate transferring files) minus all the Lenovo bloatware, and hopefully that works. If it doesn't, it'll be back to Windows 7!Overall I am still extremely satisfied with my purchase and don't regret it one bit. Even if i end up having to purchase a copy of Windows 7, I got about $100 off the system due to holiday savings anyways, so still a great deal.
