If you like a little extra to your Horror story
What a fun story. This is starts out very innocent and them really kicks into gear when they get to the island. The creation/combo of the creatures and how they try to use humans instead of just trying to kill them is a fun layer.I read his arctic series and that was great and lead me to his other books. If you like some extras added to your typical horror story Hammott is for you. The author has me hooked - I am interested in everything he writes

Drive-in theater Creature Feature
Look even though I know Hollywood would mess it up just like they do every other book to movie they do I would love to see this book turned into a movie and watch it in an old school drive-in theater yes I know they're not around anymore this book was just that good where I wish I could go back in time and watch it in the drive-in theater I know it would be super scary I loved everything about this book brutal creature violence, wonderful characters. I'm not going to give away anything about the book no spoilers just read it this author's descriptions of the island and the things that were on it made me feel like I was right there on Horror Island with them any horror fan will not be disappointed with this book

Great Read
I have read a few of Hammotts books and this one was creepy and really different. I enjoyed the idea and hope this goes on a bit. I would like to know how the alien came to the island. So if you want something scary, this is an interesting read.

Classic Pulp Fiction
A really good story, fast paced and good descriptive narrative of the islands abandoned horror attraction/movie sets.....Spoiler alert if the alien parasite first chose a fish as its host why didnโt it just find a bigger fish and swim to the mainland? Overall good story, plan on reading more by this author.

pleasantly surprised
My first read with this author. I'll try another. The writer gets you the important background on the characters without being overly descriptive which keeps the story rolling. This technique how ever is disappointing when you get the gory parts. For a fast read that has a good balance, plot I liked it. If your looking for a Sam West gore festโฆnot so much. Oh theres plenty of guts & incredible monsters don't get me wrong. The author just has a more conservative style.

Really scary.
Very scary book. Well written, but too much on gory side for me. The Rift books were better. This book has a lot of potential if toned down a little. But the story line is fantastic.

B movie horror done right
Some syntax errors and a few - laughable - poorly turned sentences were not enough to detract from the charm of what proved an enjoyable read. It might feel hackneyed at times but it works on me and the writing is highly cinematic. Certainly made me want to check out more novels by Ben Hammott

A rare find. Action, horror and suspence without becomming cliche.
An inherentence, an abandoned island and something waiting for some visitors... What could go wrong? This book was a fantastic read. The plot is sound and has plenty of twists and supprises. The writing is well paced and finds a good balance between action and allowing suspence to build. The characters are believable without becomming cliche. It was a great read right to the end without degenerating into farce. I read it in 2 days and was dissapointed to have finished it.Thoroughly recommended.

Intense, exciting.
I think Hollywood should have more creature feature movies like this and not make any more based on evil spirits, possessions, or hauntings in general. I really enjoyed horror elements of this novel. It was scary and action packed from start to end.

Missed opportunity and needs a good solid edit.
This book was disappointing. I don't understand the rave reviews it's received. I struggled to connect to any of the characters, but my biggest problem was the writing. The sentences, some of which ran the length of an entire paragraph, were long, winding and often required two or three reads to understand. I found myself having to edit as I went along. It's a shame, too, because there is undeniable talent in the author and the story had so much potential. I bought the book because it was voted 'Scariest Horror of 2019' by horror readers USA. While the story has potential, I didn't find it at all scary, although to be fair, I only reached the 40% mark before I gave up. Perhaps it got better as it went along.I find I'm unable to recommend this book and I'd be hesitant to buy another of the author's works.
