Canon VIXIA HF R62

Camera is awesome. Got it for $250. I almost got a 4k, but I don't have a 4k TV yet. Also, 4k cameras are in the $800 range and that's the bottom.We got this a week before xmas because we wanted to film our 4 and 2 year old son/daughter opening presents. Picture is sharp, operation is easy and turns on and off fast. You can turn it off manually with the button, but what we do is we leave it on and when close the lcd viewer it goes to sleep I guess. It will instantly (like 3 seconds) turn on when you flip out the screen. It's been 2 weeks since I charged it and it's around 60% batter after filming for about an hour.**Make sure you pick AVCHD mode. It will say AVCHD 60p in the upper right.**Built in recording time for the 32GB memory starts at around 2 hours 20 minues. I've filled half of it already.**Transferring to a mac is easy enough, iphoto/photo app imports it. Windows a little more manual but drag and drop basically.**Zoom mode is crazy good. Had my son stand across the street and I was in my backyard, so he was probably 100 - 150 feet away. I zoomed in on his eyeball. Because it's optical zoom, it's crystal clear.**Shake reduction - it does a very good job with reducing shake while you film.Basically, just plug n play no worries. For $250 I plan on using this for a couple years and maybe look at a 4k down the road. Playback on HD 1080p tv is awesome. It's also got a mic input so you can hook up an external mic if you want to (works with wireless set ups, you might need to strap the wireless unit on though) but doesn't really allow attaching it. 99% of the time you'll not care. I do some music recording with it occasionally and it's useful to me but I guess that's about it.Thanks! - nick

Excellent camera, easy to use, works intuitively. I am still getting to know how to work the menus. When I showed it to others my age, they said "so compact" -- a friend of mine had been using camcorders 10 years ago and had been used to a heavy machine -- so it was surprising how small this was. I wrote a science-fiction story called Jakk's Journey and I will be using the camera as part of a mini-studio using greenscreen and a desktop computer to make videos. One reason I selected this camera was because it has a jack for an external microphone, meaning that it can record sound without any noise from moving parts within the camera.

This review is based on early days. I'm still figuring out the features only a couple months after purchase. There are a lot of features but I'm thinking that some of them are similar to one another and might not make a difference for my usage; however, they could be handy for some users. The 3 inch LCD touchscreen feels crowded. I wish it was either bigger or they did not try to display so many features at once. Also, I hope there is a way to hide the icons when I'm recording while projecting onto a big screen TV. One thing I really like is the 32 GB internal memory. It was a lifesaver when I had SD memory card problems at a birthday party. So far I have been able to record everything I have attempted and I expect my satisfaction will increase the more I investigate and practice with it.

Absolutely terrible video quality. My Samsung Galaxy S7 takes better video. I bought this in the hopes to have a better than standard video camera with separate microphone input. They video is blurry like it has a "soft focus" effect going on. I wish I had taken this out of the box sooner to know it was a piece of junk. Unfortunately I am stuck with this thing because it's too late to return it.

I can only give this camera 2 stars at the moment. I received the camera on time and it is working perfectly. However the usb cable is an older propitiatory cable (5 pin) and not the more universal mini usb cable. Camera comes with the mini usb cable but it is the wrong shape for female plug in the video camera body. So I can't transfer the files directly from the video camera. No, I don't want to buy an sd card reader. Canon should have included the correct cable that goes with the video camera. Poor quality control! I left a message with Canon weeks ago and have not heard a thing. Slow poor customer service. Canon or Amazon, get me the proper cable and the camera could get the 5 stars it deserves.

Simply Garbage noise performance in low light. As a professional videographer, the only time the footage from this is useable is when you're recording outside on a very sunny day.

I got it used for $105 and the camera is genuinely great. The zoom is amazing, it has the ability to reach 1080p 60fps, and you can put 43mm lens on it without adapter I believe.It also came with a little camera bag which was very convenient!

I opted for this little camera because I just do not like the fish eye lens of GoPro type action camera's. Lots of great features in a compact unit. The large screen, zoom & image stability is very good. I have put some early footage on YouTube: "Rolling Thunder Trucking Company",, I am Interpilot. I plan to do a lot more testing and evaluation of it's features soon. I also purchased the extra kit with 64gig card, battery etc. + a nice little waterproof Zeikos carry bag. The 64gig memory works fine, but the built in 32gig memory of R62 is a real +. I believe all well worth the price tag. The picture quality is excellent, but I have always had very good luck with Canon camera's shooting both for fun and professionally. Here a side by side comparison with my HDR FX1. Lots of amazing new technology packed in such a small compact unit. I connected it to my macpro laptop and could immediately begin editing the MP4 video in Final Cut Pro. Although I had some problems importing the higher quality AVCHD format. Hopefully I will get this worked out. Overall I am very pleased and highly recommend this camera ..
