Please note that This is only for the back plastic part of the case only. Could not evaluate sleep mode bc would have to purchase the smart fabric front separately. Otherwise, it did the job and protected my iPad mini

Ok, it scratches. Let's get that out of the way. It is not a "soft touch" coated case like so many out there. That said, having many such cases which have a coating, with use that coating comes off leaving the case looking motley. This, despite it's penchant for scratches, will not have any coating flake off.It fits the iPad Mini well. Initially it wanted to pop off on a corner, but I left it on my dashboard for just a few minutes in the sun and it cleared that up. The Smart Cover can be removed with this case without removing the case/back. Also, the Smart Cover is held in place when folded behind the Mini by a little magnetic strip. It's enough metal for the Smart Cover to grip tightly. This is perfect if you hold your iPad mini for games, or just in general, to prevent the Smart Cover from flipping around.

This is a great case. I love the Smart Cover from Apple, but it doesn't protect the back of my iPad. Most "folio" style cases, including Apple's own, are much too bulky and completely defeat the purpose of a small, lightweight device like the iPad Mini. So, how do you protect your iPad's back while your Smart Cover is protecting the front?You get the Speck SmartShell! This snapped on securely, offers a well-cut channel for the SmartCover's magnetic strip and protects the back of the iPad without added bulk. It has a strip on the back allowing the cover to wrap around and stay in place so it's not flopping around (BONUS!) and the ports and buttons are easily accessible, including the camera.My only quibble with this case is that it's super glossy and picks up scratches VERY easily. Better the case than the iPad, though. I wish they had made this in a matte or frosted finish so as not to pick up scratches and wear as easily, but I figure at some point, it'll be so scratched up that it'll have a matte appearance anyway. See? The glass really is half full.

We have gone through two of the clear case backs now. Both cases have lost their metal strip on the back. Gluing it back in doesn't help and one became so bent it couldn't be glued back. In addition to the metal strip falling out....the edge of the case have cracked causing the case to be loose. My wife isn't the type of user who tosses her iPad mini around without care. I don't think her normal use of the product was excessive by any means.After the first case become non-functional within 4 months....I assumed it was a "one off" but now the second one we purchased has done the same thing in less than 2 months. I've had good experience with Speck Products before but this particular rear back case design is flawed. I can't keep shelling out $30 a pop for one of these every 3-4 months. If the pricing was closer to $9....I might be more apt to purchase a bunch to keep in stock.As it stand now....I need to find another case back with a metal strip to keep the smart cover from flopping open.

This simple shell case holds the iPad mini Retina nicely. It is easy to pop off - just by pulling on the corners closest to the smart-cover attachment. It works well with the smart cover - as it has a bar that the smart cover sticks to magnetically when open. As a counterpoint: The Apple Smart Case - does not have anything keeping the cover connected when open so it tends to flop around when in use. I really appreciate the magnetic bar feature of this case to keep the smart cover out of the way when using the iPad.It is polycarbonate so after only a few weeks of use it is already getting scratched up - but it does its job protecting the iPad.

The item came damaged, it fit perfect to the iPad mini but it came scratched and with the metal slab lost.

It worked, after I used industrial double sided tape to hold the metal strip in place. The plastic also broke on the left top corner after removing the iPad from the case once. It just isn't built to high standards, or perhaps is just too brittle.That broken corner seemed to be a common problem after researching the case looking to replace it.

I really liked this case for the iPad mini 1st generation. For my 2nd generation, the new case at first fit as snugly as the original case. Not long after using the 2nd gen case, mine cracked. I wish it fit the iPad mini 2 better.

The case has already broken and I have only had it for a few months... It could have been great.

Je recherchais un equivalent du Belkin Secure Snapshield que j'utilisais sur mon iPad 3, pour mon iPad Mini 2 / Retina.La bande métallique a l'arrière de la coque permet de maintenir la Smart Cover bien en place lorsqu'on veut tout simplement lire.Le produit de Speck remplit parfaitement cette fonction.Cependant le plastique transparent utilise est plus sujet au rayure et n'a pas le toucher doux que j'aimais sur le Belkin, Ceci dit l'arrière de l'iPad se voit par transparence et cela evite de donner un impression d'épaisseur.Je recommande chaudement pour la protection et l'aspect pratique.

La funda en sí encaja perfectamente con el iPad. Muy resistente a ralladas y la protección es ideal.,Cabe destacar (por eso la última estrella) que a los 20 días se despegó la parte del imán trasero de la funda. Nada que no se pueda solventar con un poco de pegamento industrial.

Cumple con su función aunque parece débil
