Excellent printer
I was just reading the reading reviews on this printer and I was rather appauled. Firstly.. People who give the printer bad reviews seemed to have bought it in bulk or received it as a free gift when purchasing a computer. The possibly got generic ones or faulty printers that the factory was trying to get rid of.. and why not give them away... also spoke about the USB chord to connect printer and laptop not being included. But i am not familiar with a printer that includes the chord. They went on to say that it cost them 35 dollars !! ? ... huh...??? i bought my chord on Amazon for 3.00 yup 3.00. Prior to buying that chord i had purchased another on at Staples for about 15-20 dollars. I have provided a link that sells thechord for 2.60 plus free shipping ..[...]Hear me when i say this... the printer works and it works well... i am a college student in Virginia and i bought the printer when i moved here from the Caribbean about a year and a half ago and i love it. IT has never failed me. I recall only having one paper jam throughout my year and a half .. my printer and i have a personal relationship. it is always there for me and always come through. In my year and a half i have only replaced the cartridges twice. (i'm on my third)(the ink does go down pretty quickly when u continuously print photos DUHH!!) and i print all my projects on it for skool ( im a full time student) I really cannot relate to those negative comments. I owned an all in one hp printer back home in the caribbean but i much prefer this one. It is Pretty and professional and folds up to take up less space. I love it. To those commenting negatively i only have one thing to say .. Its an HP printer not GOD. Dont expect it to have dinner waiting on the table.... or pick ur kids up from soccer practice. It really does what it was made to do. PRINT COPY AND SCAN!!!My advice to u is get it!

Installs too much crap in Windows. Frustrating in Linux
I rarely leave a review so soon after purchasing a product, but this printer has pissed me off so much Im pretty confident on my feelings for it.The main reason I bought this printer was because I wanted something that could work with my CentOS linux machine. I did some research and found that most people thought HP printers provided the best support for Linux. The standard install of CentOS 5.4 comes with old HP drivers (hplip 1.6, think). Fine, so I go to the HP site download hplip 3.x. I cant install hplip 3.x because of a conflict with hplip 1.6 already on the machine. So I uninstall hplip 1.6 and now it says I cant install hplip 3.x because it has a dependency on something from hplip 1.6, wtf! So after MANUALLY installing depedencies I finally get the printer to work. However I never could get the scanner to work. XSane just keeps pretending that there is no scanner, even with hplip installed. If I wanted to spend a few more hours of my Saturday trying to get it to work, I might succeed, but I dont. I realize these troubles mostly aren't HP's fault, but my frustrations weren't over yet.So I gave up on Linux and tried to install on Windows XP. The software installation says it needs 600MB for the install!!! And it doesn't give you a choice what to install, youre getting all of it whether you want it or not. I KNOW it doesn't need 600MB to make a printer and scanner function, its just loading crap to slow down my PC. And sure enough as Im running the installer, it gleefully announces that its defiling my computer with the yahoo toolbar and other crap I dont want. All I can do is watch in horror as it has its way with my computer. After the install I check the "Add/Remove Programs" and I count 9 different things it installed. One of which being the "HP Customer Participation Program" at 192MB! At the very least it appears I can still uninstall these separate components, but it would have been better if I had the option to not install in the first place.Yeah, so after all that we finally get to the part about how it works. Yeah, it scans fine. weeeee. Yep, it prints fine. whopeeee. But Ive paid a high price in aggravation.

So far so good for the price
Because I installed Windows 7 my old scanner and printer were now obsolete without drivers - I purchased them back when I was using Windows 98 (yes, they lasted that long and still work) so getting an all-in-one printer scanner made sense. This would be for personal use and not for any home business office. The delivery was quick from Amazon even under the slower free delivery option. Set up was almost painless - I had to turn the power off after I inserted the ink to get it to the next step but the instruction booklet did not say to do that - unless I misread it. But turning it on and off worked. This did not come with a USB cable - none do these days so I did not count that against them. The test print came out with much better quality than my old HP ink jet would produce. No idea yet how long the ink will last me and if I will be paper jam free or if it will stand up to my wear and tear (I don't generally print a lot these days). Time will tell if this was worth the purchase but for $60 bucks I feel it was a great deal.
