Super easy ONCE the old one is removed!
After my 13+ year old oven failed ONCE I didn't think that there WAS a problem because for the next couple of months it worked. I figured 'power issue'. We get brown outs every now and again so that was the first culprit. Fast forward to a few nights ago where my dinner dinner plans for some TAKE-N-BAKE ZA got ruined. I ordered up the igniter. When people say that the 'OEM' part is hard to remove, they are NOT pulling any punches. ONE thing would have made it a total SNAP for me: Just remove the ENTIRE burner assembly WITH the igniter attached. If I had done that instead of trying to bruise my knuckles removing the unit while IN the oven, it likely would have taken me 15-20 minutes total. As I did it, (trying really hard not to strip or otherwise destroy threads) it ended up being a 'production' to remove the old unit. Once I discovered that the burner came out SUPER EASY then the old igniter was less troublesome. (Not easy, but MUCH less difficult than attempting the same in the oven.)This product was in a sealed Whirlpool labeled box and as pictured. I am hoping that I get another 10+ years out of the new one. :-)

Easy fix
Get the right part for the job, there are cheaper version of this unit on the market but they will not last as long as this one. If you want to swap this unit out again in two or three years get the generic version. The unit is very simple to install. I do recommended wearing cloves, some of the stove parts have very sharp parts.Instructions for your oven can be found on the internet, I founded several video which saved me time on disassembly.Remember, turn off the gas to your stove , and unplug power to it. All in all it took me 30 minutes for the entire thing.

Just like the photo, fit perfectly
Update: 10/9/2016 and it's broken. Almost 2 years exactly and I have to buy another. Since product life for the more expensive version is so short I'll try the cheaper generic version.Original Review followsItem arrived in 3 days and was an exact "plug and play" replacement. It was identical to the photo and came with the factory style plug. The factory plug prevents you from swapping the polarity of the wires.I'm glad I didn't order the cheaper generic version although saving the extra $$ would have been nice. The insulation on the original unit indicated it had been subjected to high temperatures. I wanted to upload a photo of the original unit to allow others to see how the insulation had protected the wires but I couldn't find the secret button to do that. The generic versions don't have the better insulation. I figured the peace of mind knowing I had superior insulation was worth the extra cost. It was cheap insurance compared to having to rebuild my home.My particular oven didn't have enough extra wire for me to complete the job from within the oven compartment. I had to pull the oven away from the wall and open an access panel on the back. Not too difficult but an extra inch of wire would have made the job a lot easier

Perfect replacement
We installed this a month ago and it works great on my GE Profile stove! It looks just like the origional piece, minus the burnt wires. I endured cooking without an oven for nearly 2 months (but learned to prepare food with my broiler, so that's a plus). This was so much more affordable than buying direct from GE. I just wish we would have figured out the problem and the solution sooner.

Plug and play ignitor replacement
Installing this replacement part was a breeze once we removed multiple pieces of our GE Profile oven. Not only was it necessary to remove the floor of the oven, but the secondary level under the floor containing two large protective metal panels. Once removed access to the ignitor was quite simple, essentially plug and play. Oven is now working as desired. Good investment and saved a costly repair service fee. Would absolutely puchase again, but hopefully will not be necessary!

Quality part
I am expecting this OEM igniter to last a lot longer than the knockoff I installed last year. Right out of the box I could tell this was of a much higher quality than the knockoff replacement. It is heavier and solidly made. The igniter shield bracket is of thicker gage metal. The connecting cables have a heat shield, the knockoff cables were exposed. The install was a perfect fit.

Doesn't last that long.
This GE replacement "glowbar" works fine when it works, but I've needed to replace it too often. First, after about 2 years, then after only 8 months. And it's poorly designed for a slide-in oven, because you must slide the oven out of its counter position and do the replacement from the back panel. For something that needs to be replaced so often, it seems that GE could create a design that's accessible from the front!
