Z-Line Designs 2-Drawer Lateral File Cabinet, Cherry

This is a very nice file cabinet for the price. I read every review before purchasing and will touch on some of the other reviewers comments here. First, the box is very heavy, so if you don't have an awesome UPS guy like me, who was willing to carry it upstairs to my office area, have a plan to move it to the desired location. For the record, I purchased the Amazon Warehouse deal unit, so I was fully aware i would be receiving a damaged box, although the unit itself was not damaged. What I didn't realize is that the styrofoam packing material was severely damaged, so it created an enormous mess when I removed the parts from the box. This caused quite a bit of extra work, but I saved $20. As other reviewers mentioned, it takes some time to assemble. I have built many units of ready to assemble furniture, and this was the most time consuming. It took 2.5 hours, although much of that time was spent vacuuming up styrofoam dust from the pieces and the floor. The directions are easy to follow. There was not enough glue included for all the parts you are instructed to glue, so have an extra bottle of wood glue on hand. Luckily, I had just built several bookshelves, so I had some leftover from those that I used. The other problem I ran into, was some of the holes for the cam screws were not drilled deep enough, so they were very hard to fully tighten. However, I am a petite woman and was able to get it done with a little extra effort. The finished product looks great and functions pretty well for me. I do wish the drawers were a bit longer, to accommodate legal size files running the entire width. I had to purchase a box of letter size folders and change some of my file folders out to be able to store everything correctly. Another note, they show 2 different ways to configure the drawers, but mine only came with enough rails to configure each drawer to half legal and half letter. This was ok, since that was the best way I could have configured them for my needs. I have attached some pictures to show the actual configuration. Overall, i am very happy with my purchase and love the way it turned out.

We are very pleased with this filing cabinet! We got the cherry color and it's just as the picture shows. The finish and the hardware are lovely and add a touch of class to to the room as compared to our old metal cabinet. It's very sturdy and all pieces seem to be well made. The bottoms of the drawers are somewhat flimsy, which doesn't normally matter in a cabinet with hanging files that don't touch the bottom. But we wanted to lay some items on the bottom shelf so my husband thoroughly glued a board underneath the bottom in the middle from front to back after checking that it would not prohibit the drawer from opening. It worked well and we now have a sturdy bottom drawer to store boxed items. Many reviewers complained about the difficulty of assembling the cabinet but my husband, who did the job, thought it went together well. It did take more than one day but that was because of frequent interruptions not because the cabinet was difficult to assemble. Then there was the matter of measuring, cutting, and gluing the support board and allowing enough time for the glue to dry -- an overnight wait. We were impressed with the kit and directions provided by Z-Line Designs. All parts were clearly marked to make the assembly work well. We would not hesitate to order another item from them. Beautiful file cabinet. The cherry wood finish matches my dining set China cabinet and side table perfectly (all are cherry wood.)I have put together more furniture in my house that it'd be easier to tell you what furniture I didn't put together.That being said I managed to put this together by myself in about 1.5 hours. That includes pulling each piece out, counting each item, and following the instructions to a T before putting it where I wanted it. I would say this is slightly more advanced than a few of my Ikea\Wal-Mart\Amazon projects but definitely not the hardest item that I've built.I am not a strong person; I am under 5 foot in height and under 100 pounds in weight. I used a wall as my "second person" to balance pieces together. Putting the drawers in would be much easier with 2 people, I will say, but I still managed to do it by myself.It does not tip when the drawers are out unless you lean on them. In my pictures I do not have it mounted to the wall and I make sure to keep my cats from trying to jump into the drawers. If you have kids I highly suggest mounting it for their safety.

This was a pain to assemble. Not the greatest lateral file but I knew that when I bought it. Didn’t need the most expensive file so this worked out fine. It came with a scratched on the front top corner but not worth returning. We got what we paid for so we are happy with it. If I had known I had to assemble it I probably wouldn’t have purchased this item. I assumed it was coming assembled in one piece like most office furniture does.

Easy to assemble if you are familiar with assembling products like this. All the pieces were in the package (extremely important if you are familiar with products like this). Attractive for the money. Operates fairly smoothly. As sturdy as one could expect for this price point. I would absolutely purchase another of these if needed.

I just finished putting this together and it looks great in my music room. It matches the antique piano perfectly. I decided to work on it in stages. The directions are very well-written, no trouble with assembly. The cabinet went together in less than an hour. I took a break for supper, then completed the drawers in a half hour. If you can read and follow directions, and have a little patience this is much nicer than many of the file cabinets I've seen in office stores. I debated for quite a while because of the reviews about how difficult assembly was for people, but I had no struggles whatsoever.
