I love it
I first bought this product in March of 09. It immediately became useful when I caught a creep entering my property at night on night after the alert went off. (See [...] ) You can see when the light come on, he runs. This was two weeks after getting my alert. Then once again a year later I caught a second creep in action. ( [...] ) The unit worked for just over a year before it quit working. I sent it back knowing it was just out of warrantee, but the people at dakota honored it anyway and sent me a new one. During the time the unit was out for repair, my wife and I realized how much we missed the unit. Not just the fact that we couldn't tell when someone had come into our driveway but how unprotected we felt at night. So I bought a second receiver. We have 4 transmitters on the property. One at the back gate, one on our rear deck, one near our garage door entrance and one at the driveway. Each zone has its own tone. Now with our repaired receiver in our laundry room and the new receiver in our bedroom, we sleep well at night. Unless the unit goes off : o )I would add that the transmitters and receivers work flawlessly together. When it goes off, something is up. Dogs and dear will set it off, so that can be a problem, but overall we love ours. Batteries in the transmitter last about a year. Our temps in central Oregon range from 10 below in the winter and 100 in the summer.

Works great with Dakota UT-3000 transmitters
Easy to set up this unit to coordinate with the transmitters. I have 2 transmitters with two different tone signals sent to this receiver. I really like the volume control on the receiver. IT IS LOUD! I have the receiver in an office area, so I turned the volume way down. It's a little 'tinny' in sound, but it's a door chime, not a stereo system, so it doesn't bother me. Sounds like an electronic tone. There are 4 sounds to choose from. One is a "whistle" which sounds like an alarm. I use the Ding-Dong on one receiver and a Westminster chime on the other. One oddity is that the receiver will chime twice, and there is no way to change that setting. So the Ding-Dong goes Ding-Dong...Ding-Dong every time the door is opened. My old chime only chimed once. I guess it's good if you miss the first chime :)

Good system, has a few bugs, great tech support.
I have two receivers and two transmitters.I have a magnetic one in my long rural driveway. It really worked poorly installed as directed with the sensor parallel to the driveway. Luckily, my driveway is gravel so I dug up the sensor and mounted it right in the middle of the drive. WOW! What an improvement. It even picks up the largely aluminum UPS truck 100% of the time. The IR sensor in the workshop has always worked 100%The magnetic one has failed twice and the tech support guys were 110% helpful. I have an electronics background and once they sent me a new PC card for me to install. Sped up the repair time by a whole bunch!Right now I'm thinking of adding another receiver in the far part of the house due to my bad hearing.

Living in the woods, it's nice to have a system to announce cars driving into the driveway
We ordered our first Dakota Alert system a couple of years ago so we would be able to know when cars entered our driveway. We ordered this extra receiver so I could have one in my quilting studio, in case my husband wasn't home to hear the one in the house. The system works great. The volume can be adjusted - when it is turned all the way up, we would probably hear it if we were out in the woods! The only person for whom it doesn't work is our UPS delivery person..... she parks the truck out on the road and walks the packages in. So she steps over the alert hose. But we like her and appreciate her so much - and we know she will always leave the packages in a safe place - that we don't care. (Plus I always know when my Amazon packages are arriving because of their great tracking, so I know to look on the front porch around 4 p.m.) :-)

Perfect for what I need
This item has performed almost perfectly now for over a year. I got two receivers, one for inside the house and one on the deck, and both sound off. I have the transmitter about 150' from the receivers, and have had good luck with that set up. At one point I was getting occasional false signals, but after adjusting the sensitivity according to the maker's suggestion, it worked better. I haven't had to replace the batteries yet, and it's worked in temperatures down to -20 F.

Can be used for industrial controls
I use this with a Dakota Alert wireless door bell. Dakota products give you the ability attach your own input and output connections. So with a little electrical knowledge you could use their products to add a wireless link to an industrial control application. For example you could keep a water tank full by hooking a float switch up to the transmitter and a relay that controls a pump up to the receiver. The wireless range as sold is only a few hundred feet. However, it was easy to increase the range of the transmitter to 1000 feet.

Second receiver for the upstairs.
I had previously installed the Dakota alert system. This is another receiver. The system works beautifully, but we have the receiver on the main floor of a two story house. If you are upstairs, such as sleeping at night, you can not hear the downstairs alarm receiver. This is not a fault of the receiver, just the reality of a two story house. Easy fix. Just plug in a second receiver upstairs, and it picks up the same signal. Easy-peazy!

Nice product.
I have a very long driveway. I am using this device in conjunction with the driveway probe transmitter. I bought one of those orange rotating 12 volt lights to connect to the reciever unit inside the house. I am planning on connecting this to the 12 Volt output. The manual says that it will run for 10 minutes. So I should not miss any alarms. If I have the music up real high or for some other reason that I am out of range of the audio alarm the visual alarm will last for 10 minutes.
