Question the low star reviews...
The people that post bad reviews for this camera must lack some computer knowledge/networking ability. Don't blame the equipment for the lack of YOUR knowledge! This camera is of great quality, in terms of construction and the displayed image. Tech support is super helpful if you have questions and responds very quickly. You can also ask them for the latest firmware for the camera (5.80 at the time I am writing this).I have 1 NC-336W and 2 NC-316W cameras that I had installed on my house by a friend at the same time. I did all the wireless and wired networking. One of my family members liked my setup so much that they bought a NC-336W too. I live in the USA but I was watching my house from my phone (and computer) from Europe when I was travelling last month. I set the camera to both motion record if it picks up motion and always record to an SD card so I can get footage if needed. 64GB SD cards right now are the best bang for your buck. You can also have it upload the files to a NAS or FTP server. I originally bought these cameras because of break-ins in my neighborhood. There hasn't even been a single stray person in my yard since installing these. The camera that my family member used on their house was used by a neighbor as evidence that a tow truck damaged their driveway when towing another neighbor's car.The camera is wired and wireless. Set it up with wired initially then you can have it use wireless. I set up a PoE network with another router (acting as an AP) in my garage since my phone and laptop usually get a weak signal in that part of my yard. The camera still picks up my house router really well, usually 4 or 5 bars.I wish an 802.11ac version of these cameras was available but only 802.11n is. I have too many wireless networks in my neighborhood (maybe 40+ that I can pickup), so it's tough to say what the actual max speed of the camera is, but it appears both wired and wireless are around 2MB/s tops. I hooked 1 of 3 cameras up using wired and get the 2MB/s. I get 1.1MB/s to 2MB/s using wireless. I wish the speeds were a bit faster, but it's still fine. Support states they will look into optimizing the software code for a future firmware build. I believe them since they release a lot of firmware builds to constantly fix bugs and improve on the camera. Some people have complained in the past about the picture being too washed out. This is no longer the case with the latest firmware that makes some adjustments and also lets you manually adjust the picture quality.I recommend buying these cameras in sets of two since you can get a discount.

Skip the cheaper cameras if you want detail
I purchased this camera to watch my bird feeder to see what kind of birds I was getting during the day. I initially went through two much cheaper and lower quality cameras (from another manufacturer) and was very disappointed as I could barely make out shapes and definitely not birds. Although this camera is pricey, I feel it was worth the money to get the detail that I was looking for. I had no difficulty connecting it to wifi or the Anyscene app. The only confusion I had was viewing the camera remotely from a different PC. I was told to download the cameralive software and it worked like a charm. I uploaded a video to YouTube which represents a typical view from my camera http://youtu.be/U-CQjFsdnfg. It's placed about 30 feet from the feeder.I left one star off because I do have lag at times, and wish there was a website to get firmware updates. Other than that so far it's been a great camera for the month I've had it. I wish I would've saved money on the cheaper cameras and went for this one first.

Outstanding, clearly the best security cameras in the world.
Setup isn't difficult, but requires at least SOME technical knowledge. Despite support being based in China I have found them remarkably fast at answering emails usually 1-2 hours maximum to get detailed replies back. Very friendly. [email protected] usually respond immediately, and if you email them ask for the firmware and they will email back the firmware with detailed instructions however you can also update the firmware from within the gui when accessing the IP of the camera directly. However as an IT Engineer I do not recommend updating firmware unless there are issues - if the camera is stable and nice - leave the firmware alone.First, some important facts;1) The cameras are IP66+ rated. Which means you can submerse them in water. They are resistant to dust, dirt, blunt force, and water. Essentially these are full military grade cameras. You do not have to be concerned where you mount them, unlike most other cameras.2) Mounts are STURDY.. Very thick steel, able to sustain a lot of force if necessary. Unlike most flimsy camera mounts!3) Top camera shield is steel, and sits above the camera buffered by rubber knobs.4) Camera has 'seals' for all openings, including rubber plugs for screw holes!5) Camera has 'several' mounting areas underneath, so you can adjust how/where the mounting post screws in. This is a superb feature missing from most cameras.6) Camera comes with a 6db antenna, very good, and capable of incredible range, even through walls. Most cameras come with 1-3db antennas - for the record.7) SD card is mounted inside of camera - you need to unscrew the camera housing. This acts as a self contained DVR but it's not how I would personally use this camera.8) Camera junction box is sealed, mountable outside, and has romex attachments for direct home wiring, or power supply attachments! The camera is also POE compatible.9) Night vision is STRONG. It can see effectively out to almost 100 feet in total darkness. A 'tiny' light source will give this military level night vision should there be any small light sources around. I use a low wattage bulb in my spotlight and it creates a massive viewing range in the darkness.10) Camera defaults on 17.5 FPS, 1920x1080 high definition with effective 40ft license plate number reading during the day. Some important things to consider;Software that this comes with is rubbish. Absolutely limited. You WILL need a third party software like Blue Iris to effectively utilize this powerful camera. Not a big deal as Blue Iris is very cheap and can run on any old laptop or PC laying around - or even a $99 refurb. Setup your own camera server/DVR in minutes! To setup properly, you need to do the following;1) Connect camera directly to router/switch, and plug in the DC Adapter.2) Find the IP address of the camera - use AngryIP Scanner on your network to find it.3) Access the IP directly of the camera within your web browser.4) Unplug everything, mount camera, plug it the adapter, romex or POE - your choice of power.5) Install Blue Iris, it will find the camera (click plus sign). Or whatever camera software you like. (I prefer Blue Iris)Now you are ready to go. You can also enable P2P connection, and connect to your camera directly with the free software, and mobile apps (camera live). However this offers NO functionality for recording or anything else, but at least verifies it's all working. Now it's easy to add more cameras. There are cheaper cameras, but not cheaper with the level of resolution, night vision, durability, and configuration as this one. Some additional information;DC Adapter is 12v 1000ma, but as long as it is center positive, 500ma or MORE it will power it fine but it does have to be 12v. Remember you can go over 1000ma just not under. For me I had no access to POE so what I did was replace the adapter with a 2000ma one, run a 25ft DC Adapter extension code through the attic then put a DC Cord splitter under the eves so I can power 2 cameras on 1 DC adapter. Then I plugged the DC Adapter into a UPS backup system to provide 'hours' of power backup. Also check out the 335 models that are lower cost, smaller, but slightly less durable.. Another thing to consider 4mm or 6mm focal length? For a long backyard go with the 6mm, for a front porch I would go with a 4mm. The 4mm is very nearly a fish-eye (but not quite) and the spread is very very nice for a front porch/yard. But for backyards where you want some distance the 6mm is superior. I have a 4mm in the front, 6mm in the side and will be added another 6mm to the back.
