Q: Can you use it to record tapes to CDs?

Yes you can transfer tapes to CD with this machine. The easiest way is to connect the RCA outs to an audio CD recorder (Tascam makes several). You can also do it by connecting the RCA outs to the inputs of a computer and use software such as Bias SoundSaver to convert and break into tracks. I did it by connecting the RCA outs to a Tascam DR-100 MKII audio recorder (flash memory) and transferring the wave files to my Mac for editing and burning.

Q: Will it continuously play both sides of both tapes automatically or at least play both sides of both tapes once automatically without any assistance?

Hi James: the W-890R-B will automatically play both "sides" of the cassette, i.e. with auto-reverse when the first side of the cassette reaches the end of the tape the music stops it will automatically play the 2nd side of the cassette. Also, the W-890R-B's "double," twin-drive mechanism can copy tapes or play a second tape after the first one is finished. I've been pleased with the performance and features of this unit. Q: Can I use this machine to copy an old cassette to a new one?

Yes, it produces high quality copies from one deck to the other. Be aware of very old or low quality tapes which can release their oxide coating on the machine record/play heads, which is sometimes visiable, reducing sound quality. If this happens, use a rubbing alchohol dampened, but not dripping que-tip to clean shinny heads in bottom of cassette holder, then let dry a about 10 minutes before use.
