Absolutely love the book! The shipping method was awful.
This is one of our family’s favorite stories! It’s a must buy.I was a bit disappointed in the printing quality. I feel the binding and cover thickness could be improved. But that aside it wasn’t shipped well. Ours came in a bag. It’s a gift for my niece and now it’s tough to gift. The book is bowed/bent. There’s a cd taped to the back inside cover. But the indent of the cd can be seen all the way to the front cover. The corner of the whole book is bent too.

excellent books if you like a little bit of lingual gymnastics
The Maynard Moose stories are truly amazing. They are quite funny, and very well, "poorly" written. Meaning Maynard (who narrates) has a unique way of pronouncing words and speaking. My kids are on the young side for these books, but because the books and themes and characters are so silly, they still enjoy the books very much and we read them often at bed time. Almost as important is that I enjoy reading them. They are very clever, and also teach important lessons in a fresh way. I can't recommend the Maynard Moose books enough. All the ones we have read so far have been amazing. Check them out!

Such a fun, funny book
Such a fun, funny book. Quirky and well-written, while also pointing out important morals, such as the ills of telling a child that doesn't fit in, "You'd think, being different, you would try harder."Love the whole premise of it being in "moose" dialect. And the doctor that is a "quack." *grin* Who asks the mom duck if there is any history of quadrapedalism (I think that's what they called it?) in her "fambly."Great book. We checked it out from our library multiple times before purchasing it. And if you get the version with the audio CD, the person reading the CD also does a great job of bringing out the flavor of the book. :-)

Very Funny & Cute Moral
We originally got this book from the library with the audio CD and loved it. The story itself mirrors the original Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen, which makes for a good comparison/contrast learning opportunity. A warning though: If you get it used make sure the CD comes with it, because that's what makes the book. The author narrates the story which is in a strange but fitting dialect. Some complained about the misuse of language, and I had reservations myself, because I believe in a standardized language system, but sometimes I think we need to allow for creativity too. I also think it's a good learning opportunity for kids to realize not everyone speaks exactly the same.

A wonderful discovery!
I will read this many times to my son, and, in time, to my grandchildren. I like that Maynard speaks in terms small children can relate to. I like that the stories make my son laugh. I recommend these books to anyone who reads to their children and wants to encourage a love of reading in their children. Top rating for an excellent story format and for the joy it brings my son.

A must for every classroom!
Love this story! I use it each new school year! It comes with a CD and it is read in the voice of the Uglified Ducky! A great lesson in this cute story!

Great book - disappointing condition
This book is amazing and I highly recommend it. We had it for our daughter and was purchasing for a gift for someone else. I hadn't realized I was purchasing a used copy (my mistake) and it wasn't in as good shape as I would have liked.
