look is awesome, solid hard cover. touch fells slick, yet it has highlight printed black shining inked map on cover and back of the wilderland, if you unfold the thing and put it on desk, you can see the whole picuture.it comes with the pocket at end, where you can read moleskine's propaganda cult, which is well spread online as well...in like.. 7 languages, in a folding pamplet.Also comes with the quite good quality folded map of the wilderlandgot the first page with your signing;goes like this:"Please return this journal to your humble servant "then u got 3 free blank lines to write whatever you want,then goes like "As a reward" then lined.then "having the honourto remain yours deeply"then you sign....Got dragon logo on cover in metallic shining red dented in a bit. good to the touch. Also can be found inside the hardcover paper backing of the start and then the last page of the book, across the pocket.On the backside of the printed map in the pocket, u can find Thror's map with lonely mountain and some elvish text. and obviously, smaug.Solid design.Now, the paper.Using pilot vanishing point, lamy safari, pentel energel RTX deluxe, and some uniballsmy conclusion is it works perfectly with any sort of gel pen, it tolerates M/F fountain pen, but expect bleedthrough at a tolerable amount, you can still accept them as like, a background, and you can write on double side of a piece of sheet no problem.Will update.

Another great quality notebook from Moleskine. I mean it's the hobbit! come on! I couldn't resist.The cover is beautiful, the dragon on the cover is indented and has an engraved feel and is shiny.There are dragon symbols on both inside covers, the first page says "Please return this journal to your humble servant: ____, as a reward:___"It also comes with a map and a quality control number.Overall, it's gorgeous, i used it to doodle and sketch, the pages are slightly yellow tinted as all moleskine journals are, the pages are a bit thin but hasn't bled through with the Sakura micron pens i'm using.I want to buy another one just to look at and keep.

I ordered this notebook mainly because I'm a geek. I was going to get a moleskine, and I saw this one for a great price and ordered it. I ordered it early Wednesday morning and it was in my hand by the afternoon on Thursday. I couldn't believe how fast the shipping was. My hat is off to Amazon! The notebook itself is gorgeous. The cover is really neat and the red metalling debossing of Smaug is beautiful. The map that comes in the back pocket is really cool. The pages are a dream to write on with a Pilot G-2. Great product.

Great product, great size, lasts a long time, ink pens work really well with this kind of paper. I would buy again.I love that the pages are blank. I'm a huge LOTR fan, and loved the design of the cover. I wish moleskine made more special covers like this. It gives it an extra flair. So many people have just the plain black one in the hospital (doctors/students love using moleskines). Mine is special because it has a design from the Hobbit!

I always wanted a Moleskin to sketch in. I succumbed to the hype. The paper is very lightweight and useless for anything beyond light sketching with pencil. If you use a micron pen or similar it bleeds thru. And any pressure applied will leave dents in several pages underneath. For my purpose it is useless. Perhaps for a journal it is ok. My moleskin desire is no more.Revised:August 30After initial shock of discovering that the paper in this particular Moleskine was rather thin..and would not be suitable for sketching with a fountain pen..loaded with Mont Blanc ink..very watery....so unless you applied very light pressure..bleed thru and feathering would be the result..However, for pencil..it's quite acceptable. Can take some pretty heavy erasing without destroying the page. So, in retrospect, after 7 weeks of using the journal for pencil sketches..I've revised my rating to 5 stars. Just be aware that if a fountain pen or other liquid marker type of pen..say a Micron or similar are employed, you will probably experience bleed thru or feathering. I overcame that by cutting out a journal page sized piece of Bristol plate pen & ink paper and slide that behind the page to protect the subsequent pages from ruin..Other then that its a nice product and subsequently I've purchased the 2 watercolor paper versions...large and small. (: haven't broken the seal on those yet so cannot honestly provide any feedback but..they look nice from the outside! (:I guess my desire for Moleskines has been resurrected.Happy journaling folks,Paul

I was not able to determine from the Amazon text whether this is The Hobbit, or merely a nicely bound book of empty pages pretending to be The Hobbit. Alas, I regret you will find no Tolkein here, just empty pages of lovely acid free paper. My boys will have no story read to them tonight, unless fire will reveal the invisible words within...

Ive had the notebook for 2 years now.. Keeps its sturdy feel and the rubber band still holds very well. The pages hold the ink very well and doe not get absorbed to the back of the page, which is great for sketching with markets and ink pens.

Amazing notebook, never seen anyone with this and everywhere I pull it out people comment on it. Lovely cover, and Moleskin quality.
